Just got my 2011 Muzzy Pro Staff agreement and new catalog in the mail today... first thing that caught my eye was a brand new MX-3 -- in 125 grains, complete with a solid steel ferrule! SWEET!!!

I've been running the 100-grain MX-3's ahead of their 50-grain brass inserts for several years now, but sort of always wanted to bump up my FOC even a tad more, but was reluctant to switch to the 100-grain brass inserts because I've already got so many arrows built with the 50-grain ones... this will allow me to keep my inventory of already-assembled arras but simply screw this new head on and I'll be in business.

The new 125-grain MX-3 retains its 1 3/16" cutting diameter and .025" blades.

Coming to a deer near me next year. ;)

    Good to hear Greg.

I've shot 100gr 3 blade Muzzy for well over 10 years now - this year added 100 gr inserts as well for Elk...overkill for the deer I've shot this year - but I've enjoyed the passthroughs (which I guess I also got before the 100gr inserts).

I do shoot a slower bow and am eyeing to finally upgrade this year - what's your take on how these new 125gr would fly compared to the old 100gr? I've always been leery of the shorter profile/steep blade angle on it's effect on penetration...

Hmmm... the old 3 blade 125 Muzzy is what killed the bear in my avatar so you should be fine I'd guess... ;)

If your Muzzy Pro Staff agreement doesn't included Slick Tricks... you've been cheated. Go back in and demand the best !! :poke:

Matt, though obviously I haven't even handled them personally yet they look exactly like the old MX-3s, and those fly like darts for me. I've used those heads exclusively since they came out -- though I tinker with other offerings, like the MX-4 (great hole, didn't fly as well for me as the 3's) and Phantoms -- with great results.

I blew through my big bull elk at 42 yards so fast with an MX-3 that I literally thought I'd missed him because I heard the head slam into a log behind him. The elk never flinched.

Even just as impressive to me penetration-wise was my first buck of this year... You can see the exit hole from my MX-3 in front of the deer's left hip after the head drove all the way through him starting up at his opposite front shoulder. He made it 75 yards or so and piled up.

So ... I'm really looking forward to testing these heavier MX-3s. :)

Tim, Slick Trick makes a great head... I've killed plenty of deer with those in the past too.

Lots of great heads on the market these days... I love all the options that we as bowhunters are given these days; that's why I was pleased to see this one on the inside of the catalog cover. :)

Every animal I have ever taken was with a 3-blade Muzzy. Started shooting them when they first came out. I have never had a reason to change but will definitely take a look at the steel ferrule. Thanks for the heads-up.

Glad to hear they're coming out with the heavier weight. Just don't let them get rid of the old style 125 gr. 3 blade heads. That longer blade with less angle is important to us low poundage shooters. :)

Cool, I used Muzzy's for years before switching to something else with my recurve this year. I might like to use a 100 grain insert and the 125 MX-3's with my recurve next year. They always performed.

I love my Muzzy 100's. Won't shoot another fixed blade but a Muzzy.

    Improved FOC, check.
    Large cutting diameter, check.
    Cut on contact, check.
    Good flight, check.

Sounds like a downright scary set up to me. Good luck with them.
