I hunted this morning saw one buck and a doe nothing in range. I did pull two camera cards, here are some of the best pictures. Nothing i'm really targeting on my family farm, but I know there are a couple big deer around. They cut the alfalfa to the north of this property and that's what i've found the deer to be very interersting right now from driving around with the kids. Anyways i'm on call starting this thursday for tha last time of the year. I may get a quick public land hunt in before then.
I had a great hunt on Saturday despite the warm temps. I didn't let an arrow fly but I did see a doe with two buck fawns, a basket 8, a fork, and another doe with a fawn. Great first sit Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
You had more action than me. Last night I saw a single squirrel and a woodpecker. It was a beautiful evening when it started to cool off. Here was my view Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Yea it’s a good spot. I’ve had some great encounters there but have never sealed the deal. That’s a great looking set you have there. Nice view. Which state are you hunting again? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Good luck to anyone that is going out this weekend. 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms this weekend for me so im not making the drive to my hunting grounds
Middle of October guys things should start getting exciting soon. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
We have a massive cold front rolling in. I can’t break away cause the wife’s out of town and I’ve got some thing I need to get accomplished. Sometimes I wish I could go back to when my priorities were WAY out of line. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Jealous of those who have been able to get out hunting. I will get to hunt next Friday the 20th (am and pm hunts), despite the more favorable cold front this weekend. After that my season will finally get rolling as I will be hunting am/pm or all days sits (3-4 days a week). I should have 15-20 days dedicated to hunting starting on Oct. 27 and going through November. Hunting after that will be solely driven by sightings/trail cams.
I’ll hunt this afternoon but my vacay starts the 27th and it can’t get here soon enough Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well here she is fellas! Got it done last night around 6 oclock. I hit her a little further back than I'd prefer, but she expired quickly and didn't go far. I'm thankful to have harvested such a big doe as there's lots of them around this area. I'll be looking into my urban hunt soon, but my rutcation starts in less than two weeks! Time to go after a bigwoods bruiser!
Ok Sitka guys I’m thinking about getting out the wallet and dropping a few bucks. What do you have and how warm is it. I’m in MN so I need warm but I also have a heater body suit for frigid days. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Here is what I own and how I use it. Also take note that I live and hunt in North Central Wisconsin Core longsleeve (I think they call it a mock tee) Fanatic hoodie Stratus Pants Celsius Shacket Celsius Jacket Fanatic Bibs Fanatic Jacket Neck Gaiter Fanatic Gloves Ball cap Beanie Incinerator Hat Early Season I will use a combination of these items - Stratus Pants (sometimes with under layers), core longsleeve, fanatic hoodie, ball cap, and gloves. Mid Season is a mix of my early season and late season items - Stratus pants, I'll switch between the shacket and jacket, ball cap/beanie, gloves, core longsleeve, and fanatic hoodie. Late Season is a mix of mid season and late season items - All listed in Mid season and add Fanatic jacket and bibs, Incinerator hat. It's important to adjust for temps and conditions and also what temp you need. I don't think there is a one setup fits all hunters.
For wicking/next to skin I have the Core Lightweight SS, Core Lightweight LS, Core Silk Weight Boxers, Core Lightweight Bottoms, Core Heavyweight Bottoms. For layering I have the Fanatic Hoody and Stratus Vest. For outer layers I have the Equinox Jacket for warmer weather paired with the Equinox Pants. As the season gets cooler I use the Fanatic Lite Pants and Fanatic Lite Jacket. Other accessories: Merino Equinox Gloves, Stratus Gloves, Sitka Cap, Sitka Face Mask, Neck Gaiter, and a few other items laying around. I'm not a fan of any of their hats though from a personal fit standpoint. I also have and love the Tool Bucket backpack for all my hunts, but especially for when I hang and hunt. * I would add more heavy stuff for the coldest days, but with layering wisely for my systems I find that it hasn't been needed. * The great part about their systems is that no one has to be like the other and each can still be extremely effective. I've heard many times from Sitka reps that if starting to buy their gear, start with base layers and work your way out.
Not a Sitka guy but I have a couple pairs of their mid weight base layers. Any way first time I wore the top my GF said I looked hot...yada yada. money well spent.
