Its going to be somewhat cool for us. 83 for a high and 61 for a low haha. I'll take that over lows usually in the upper 60s and 70s with afternoon temps in the 90s this time of year! Ready to freaking stick something!
I don't blame you.....although it was 84 degrees when I killed my last real nice buck. Shoot that was in 2012. I'm long overdue! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Six days and a wake up here in OH. Its been hot but it was very still this morning. Soon my brothers, very soon...
I hunted last weekend on Saturday. I saw 3. I passed a doe that came by with a fawn which would have been a chip shot. I also had a nice 2 1/2 come out in front of me into the beans and work a scrape/mill around. That Sunday I pulled cameras and put my brother on a set that has one of our better bucks on it all the time. He sat the stand hoping for this buck to hit the same waterhole/beans for the 4th night in a row and he was a no-show. He saw 9 and 2 smaller bucks. The wind was great for both the stands we sat and entry/exit went well also. Overall, temps have not been ideal here in WISCO as we have been in the 90's. For that reason I am taking this weekend off as well with the plan of hunting the following Saturday. Best of luck to all hitting the woods as well as to those who will be out shortly.
Here is the bigger of the two. What do you think about the score of this deer? I'm thinking more like 110, but really wishing its closer to 120.
Your probably pretty close to your score estimate. That will work. If you you shoot the buck, doe and the bear your gonna need a bigger freezer.
I would agree with you and say 105 to 110. That is a nice buck and I hope you get a chance to see him in person!
What's up Guardians. Haven't been on here in couple days. I just got back from working my tail off at the farm in So. IL. Got 5 stands up on the Public ground that borders us. Despite a lot of Murphy's law crap happening we got a lot accomplished. The best part of the weekend went like this.... we were cutting a path to access the public to get back to a great spot we haven't hunted in a few years all the sudden we notice the Polaris Ranger has a flat. We had about a mile walk back to the house. On the way back we jumped a GIANT BUCK from his bed by a creek. It scared the crap out of me! He was HUGE and sounded like a freight train bolting out of his bed. He let us get 10 feet from him! I'm pretty sure it's a deer we laid eyes on last year. I didn't get the best look at his headgear but I could see how wide and massive he was and how huge his body was. It was so cool Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
And guess the weather waited for us Oct 1st openers. Looking good for opening day here in IL! Don't know if I'll make it out or not but loving that low temp. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I hunt with a friend once in a while and I know that chances of see a big buck are small because we just kind of go out to his fathers land and hunt without much of a plan. He will shoot whatever he wants because that makes him happy and he has limited time to hunt and loves/wants the meat(3 kids). He understands that i'm a differant type of hunter than him and we hunt together because we are friends. I'll go with him the 3 or 4 times a year when he gets to go. Hunting is my favorite thing to do outside of my family, but if i've learned anything over the years it's that good friends are very hard to find. Him and I have had some great times hunting, we've shot some big bucks, small bucks, and everything in between and I wouldn't change a thing. What i'm trying to say is just have fun with your friend it's not always about all the super hardcore stuff.
Got back from Colorado Monday. Went out yesterday hung a few stands and laid some salt down. Now just waiting for Sunday morning. Hopefully something strolls by before it gets to warm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm going to check cameras at one of my spots that is close to work in the afternoon today. Then the plan is to sit at this location Saturday morning. I believe the wind is going to be good and depending what I see on camera will really help me make my decision. One of my cameras is set up over a mock scrape on video mode. Pretty psyched on what I'll be getting on camera!
Geez opening day with an east wind. Horrible for most of my stands. Might have to find a climbing set with my climber if I go at all Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Good luck guys. In WI we have some great hunting weather this weekend but I have prior commitments. I am planning on getting out for the first time next weekend but its supposed to warm up again. We'll see.
Hopefully I'll get a sit in this weekend. I still have a few straps to change, and some stands to put up or move. I should do that stuff instead but I haven't made up my mind. I don't have a good buck patterned but the new set I hung today just felt right.
