Okay... purely conjecture on my part.

I think he would be a good fit. He has NFL connections... makes his program desirable to top recruits.

He has a good ol boy demeanor which will make him likeable to us redneck fans.

Can he win though... especially quickly?

Can he be successful recruiting against Saban?

    Would he come?

    Thoughts?

Yes, why the hell would he coach Auburn?

At least present a realistic scenario to play with.

No way would an Ohio boy go slumming in Auburn.

 Gruden has been rumored to every college opening for the last 10 years it seems.

Wasn't the rumor last week that he was going to Tennessee?

I don't care where he goes, I just want him to stop calling NFL games on TV. Every time Aaron Rodgers is around Gruden has his kneepads on.

Gruden is awesome! I don't think he has any desire to coach lol He has a pretty good gig right now!

I'm a Colts fan and Gruden is the same way about Manning. The guy likes football players who are winners - if you have a problem with winners then I don't know what to tell you. Rogers is a winner - don't like the Pack but he gets it done.

Mmmm... he said he**.... I'm tellin.

    Reasons:
#1 Urban Meyer took the good job.
#2 Ca$h talks... Auburn obviously has it to waste... I mean spend.
#3 Washed out NFL coaches seem to do well in the SEC.

Just a rumor that's been getting tossed around here, either UT, Ark. UK or AU.

The bright side would be a 2 year losers pass because of the shape things are in at either place.

I predict Dooley stays at UT... They have at least played well some of the time; they just can't seem to win.

2 years ago Florida fans wanted Gruden to coach UF, and I'm pretty sure when asked about he didn't express much interest.

If he didn't want to coach at UF, why would he want to coach at Auburn?

Only the ones that were unsuccessful in the NFL.

He did win one with Dungee's team.... Downhill from there if I remember correctly.

Hey... he and Chizik have something in common.

He was 38-26 in 4 years at Oakland, won two division titles, and never had a losing record. After he did what Dungee couldn't do in Tampa, he went on to win 2 more division titles. Even though he is one of the most annoying announcers/analyst in football history, he can coach at the NFL level a little bit.

Still is the rumor actually. He first coached at UT, his wife is from East TN and was a cheerleader for the Vols. That's the connection to UT that everyone runs too. As much as I'd love for him to coach the Vols, I'll only believe it when Gruden is standing next to Dave Hart at an introductory press conference.

From what I've heard, I'll be surprised if Dooley is retained.

Would UT even be able to afford someone like Gruden? Don't you guys still owe Fulmer, Kiffin, Pearl, and Pat Summmit money?

Also, dude, you're WAY past your month of having to rock the Gator avatar. I'm not complaining, but out of good sportsmanship, you can take it down if you want :)

Rumor is Thunder Thorton and Haslam (UTs 2 biggest boosters) are ready to pay the bill to buyout Dooley and pay a big name coach.

I've been so busy with school that I hadn't even realized a month had passed. Bye bye Gator avatar. :tu:

Tennessee and Arkansas are both more attractive landing spots than Auburn. This will be their problem in a coach search this year.

All three are more attractive than Kentucky. It isn't looking bright for a few of these schools in the coach search.

And then to complicate matters... Paul Feinbaum, yesterday, was discussing Nick Saban returning to the NFL. Where would he go? KC, Philly, New Orleans?
