Last night I was at a wedding dance for my neighbor who got married. I know the family well and a few of the young kids (12 year olds) are getting Into bowhunting. I was talking with the one kid and asked him what kind of bow he was shooting. He then said a Bowtech of some kind and that he's pulling 32lbs shooting 3 blade Rage BH's. I asked him why he was shooting the Rages and he said that's what the archery shop told him to use when he and his dad bought his bow at this place. WTF Is going on with some of these Pro Shops? This Is the 3rd kid I know of this summer that's been set up with Rage heads by archery shops. None of these kids are breaking the 40lb draw weight. Him and his dad are coming over here shortly and I'm giving him six 2 blade Magnus heads for nothing so he's set up right. I used to have alot of 2 blade BH's but I'm running out being there all going to these kids so their set up right. This Is getting really old with these so called Pro Shops setting up these kids wrong.
Just tell their dads that "your" choice is $25 per SIX heads. That ought to make them happy. I agree with you on the "pro" shops.
I can only say that I was so disappointed with the experience at my pro shop...that I have taken on doing my own work, and using this forum to research what I buy before I buy it now (last thing was the NAP Apache - which I love). They seemed like they were doing me a favor, picked out stuff I have already replaced and were pretty much uncommitted to helping me. Probably not much to selling Rage's they are all over the TV for the hunting shows, and they probably don't even think about the poundage requirements. By the time the poor kids figures it out, its too late to return them.
According to the Rage website: "The RAGE® 40KE was designed specifically for those with short draw lengths and/or light draw weights who generate less than 40 foot pounds of kinetic energy." [bold italics is my doing] I guess it's not the pro shop's fault if Rage is the one pushing these heads for less than 40ke... not a minimum of 40ke. It seems to defy common sense.... but we are talking some slick marketing in a sport where common sense does not come standard.
The real joke is Rage's claim that even 40KE is acceptable (to shoot expandables). You could probably get close with "around" 40#'s DW (with enough DL and the right arrow specs).
These weren't the 40KE heads. Slick marketing Is right but I still blame the pro shops for being as dumb. Anyone worth their salt wouldn't be setting these kids up with these heads. Their all In tune now with my help.
your a good hearted guy schultzy! That is rediculus to set up people with those broadheads with low draw weight, especially young kids.
Were they purchased at a "Pro Shop" or at a department store with a 16 year old girl running a checkout register who couldn't spell bow if you spotted her a b & o.
that is pretty bad. but then again the economy isn't that great either so that might be pushing more shops to sell more to make more instead of proper customer service. i have said this before i don't mind paying a little bit higher price if i am getting the best service and knowledge for the product.
I was a victom of that scenero ONCE, my son was 12 and I bought him expandables, he was shooting 40 lbs I sat in a stand 20 yards from him and watched him put a perfect behind the shoulder hit on an 8 point and it went in 3" and came out. They werent Rages but none the less, never again for a kid with that poundage. I share the Grrrrrr with you Stevo!
My wife shoots a mathews passion set at 50 lb was shooting rage 3 blade 100 grain and not getting a pass changed her to a coc g5 montec and pass thews everytime so far
