I am not sure I will be able to use my climber this year due to knee surgery I had. On public land (national forest) would it be better to take and set up a pop-up blind when I go into a spot or try to find a spot with some natural cover to get behind? Any thoughts on the best way to hunt public land with a bow on the ground will be greatly appreciated.
I wouldn't put anything expensive up and leave it out on public. Also I don't like to set something up the day of. If you go that route then get it cut in real good underneath a cedar or pine with a lot of cover. It shouldn't stick out at all. Or you could just take a good saw and some zip ties and camo netting. My best ground sets were from all natural vegetation. You have to remember when making one to give yourself ample space to be able to draw from a few different angles at least. You'll need to make it bigger than you think. Pop up blinds are super nice when it's rainy or windy though so conditions might be the deciding factor for me. In Kansas you can not leave a ground blind up over night on public land. Setting up so you are not sky lined and watching wind will increase your odds. I like the sun to rise behind me and set behind me so I might move set up at mid day. If it weren't so windy here I would try a ghost blind.
