Anyone else hear about the supposed predatory grizzly attack on the three campers outside of Cooke City, Montana? My neighbor and friend of my parents were about 1/2 mile from here when it happened, and he's returning in a few days with my uncle and a few friends for their annual backpacking/fly-fishing trip. They will be staying (and have stayed on previous trips) at this very campground. He (my parents friend) said he has his pepper spray, and .357 packed, but not really worried since the bear was captured and euthanized. Sort of creepy that it was a cub/sow issue, a surprise encounter, or even a food issue. It seems as if the bear literally came in looking for people. Here's the full story.
My brother was horseback riding in Yellowstone yesterday with his grand daughter. I told him watch out for the bears. He said no bears where we'll be riding. I wonder if he's retinking that. My brother was not comfortable AT ALL on our fly fishing trip to Alaska last year. He got real freeky at every encounter we had. We did have a couple bear encounters with bears with an attitude. I called one of them danger close and spooky. He called them all spooky. LOL I just emailed him the story. I bet he doesn't go fishing alone again. LOL He's not a hunter and never has been. He has limited first hand experience with much wildlife.
