I don't know about the Grizztricks, but I did put a 100gr Magnum SlickTrick thru ribs on one side and nailed the offside shoulder ball. It did not go thru the ball, but stuck halfway into it. The blades were dulled, but the point was no worse for wear. I like the Magnums. I have no issues with replacing blades after each deer.:D
Gary is right, they will all fail on a big deers shoulder bone. I even bent and broke a weld on a snuffer on one.
If your gonna hit the knuckle you better have a bullet, cause I havent seen one go through it yet, my muzzy got stuck in the knuckle with about 4 inches of penetration, never got my arrow back. On a different note, those Nitrons are great broadheads.
Duke that's my point, until someone shoots any head into a kuckle of the shoulder, it's the best head in the world:p
But I never said it was the best head in the world. I just recommended it. I do think.. it has a better chance though. Based on the science of it's size and blade design. Could be wrong though.. my wife says I often am.
LOL Germ, your a nut. The best penetrating head I've ever used was a Magnus 2 blade 125 (solid head like Nuge uses). Those things are tough, and since they are only two blades, they slice and go deep. I killed a bunch with them...shot through some shoulders and 1 backbone, but never hit the dreaded knuckle joint - so I can't say how they would do. I imagine better than 3 or 4 blade heads, but I doubt any head will go through that joint too well.
I shot a big doe with a Stinger that penetrated the knuckle and stopped on the far one. She was only about 15 yds away though. Destroyed the broadhead but plenty of penetration that she didnt run 60yds. How far was his shot atlas?
Did it go dead center or through the joint? I would love to see that a knuckle with a hole it in, I just never have.
I hit a doe in the knuckle joint once, really messed up her leg, becuase it popped the joint apart, and I BARELY got enough penetration to hit vitals & she eventually bled out. If I remember correctly, that was the only shot that actually broke a thunderhead blade. Spines & other shoulder bone hits(blade & ridge bone) only bent at best. Usually just marred the edge.
better shot placement shouldnt be aiming for the shoulder anyway. most heads will not go any further in than that.
Uh Oh! I just bought some of those... now I am worried. Anyone else have similar problems. Also how did they fly... I get same hole accuracy with Trophy Ridge Sidewinder expandables and am about 2-3 inches low with Muzzy 115 4 blades. Dead on with 125 Snuffers. Adjusted my thirty yard pin to hit 1.5 inch high.
I don't know how different the knuckle is, but the buck I shot this year I was eye level with me and slighlty quartering away. THe head went through the bottom of the heart and shattered the opposite side leg bone into about 5 pieces and the arrow hung out the other side (see picture, red arrow marks the spot). I was pretty impressed with the pentetration and the lack of head damage, but as my complaint always is with the buzzcuts, that thin slice of a hole isnt conducive to alot of blood flow.
VA...this is CRAZY! I was just thinking about you last night man. I looked up your profile and was trying to see when you last logged on....and today I see you post for the first time in like 99 years........alright!
Craig ... you said this before ... curious .... a rage slice ... since it is a single thin slice as well, would they be the same in your opinion or would the extra 3/4" of cut make the difference?
PT, I've never shot a Rage, but I would think it would make a difference. I've seen some of those rage holes and blood trails and it isn't anything like I've ever gotten with a buzzcut. I dabble with other broadheads every year (next year the slick trick mag) but for some reason the buzzcuts keep showing up on my arrows!
