past couple years, I noticed that I want to grip my bow tighter. don't know why, been doing this for over 30 yrs., why now?? I start out ok. then the closer It gets to hunting season, I notice I am gripping the bow more and groups are inconsistent and start to go all over the target. I always shoot with gloves, so I am used to them when hunting starts... has anyone tried the true shot coach, from don't choke archery? been reading about this. was thinking of trying it out. thanks any info. will help...
I have yet to try it but, I keep hearing a lot of good. For what $15 I don't think it could hurt to try.
Just add a step to your shot sequence right before you prepare to shoot physical make yourself relax all the muscle not need to shoot start with your bow hand an work your way back to release hand. Sound like you might just be tightening up all your muscles as you go to shoot
I haven't shot the true shot coach but if your having grip issues I'm sure it won't hurt...I've heard they work pretty good.
As you slowly squeeze your trigger finger on your release, concentrate on doing the opposite with your grip hand. Make it a systematic step. For every millimeter your trigger finger curls, your grip hand opens a millimeter.
Opening your grip IS NOT the solution ... Once you are at full draw your grip position should never change until the shot is over with...You do not open your bow hand while releasing the arrow. You lightly wrap your fingers around the grip and let them sort of hang at a 45degree angle..some only wrap their index & middle fingers lightly around the grip and tuck their others into their hand making a loose fist... Shooting with an open hand and outstretched fingers IS NOT correct. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Correct and if your opening as you shoot, your tensing the hand as you shoot. Sure fire way to have left /right issues. sent from my samsung note 2
yes, that is the correct way! I catch myself gripping to much at times between my finger and thumb...
No shooting with an open hand or opening your hand during the shot IS NOT the correct way...Whoever told you that gave you some bad info my man. If you start with an open hand your hand is not relaxed, it takes muscles to open the fingers up and that causes tension in the hand...If you start with a closed hand and then slowly open it while your at full draw then your hand position is changing the entire time & the tension in your hand is changing the entire time....Begin with the correct grip and keep that same position through out the entire shot process.
my bad! I ment to say that the way tfox wrote is correct. and how you explained it. bottom line, the tighter the grip, the more inconsistent your groups will be. thanks for the input... also the pic shows a perfect grip!
Get you a few thumbtacs and file down the ends so they are not sharp, take some scotch tape and tape them to your grip. Itll keep you from closing your hand lol.
I use about the same grip as the one in the pic. works well. shooting out to 90 yards last year with good results
