My understanding is that he has been calling plays all season, so no, he didn't give up play calling 2 years ago. Last year he was calling the plays as well.
Elaborate please. From what I know McCarthy has handled the offensive playcalling duties since he was hired in 2006, except for a 12-game stretch during 2015 . Every single thing I see on Google while researching this is showing me the same thing. Mike McCarthy was calling plays this year.
You are correct. McCarthy has the 5th highest winning percentage of all time I believe, even with 3 seasons under the .500 mark (that’s off the top of my head). I for one am super exited we made changes. What we were doing wasn’t getting us over the top...I believe we now have a chance to either greatly improve or get worse, but it beats complacency. I know the core group of players returning with a healthy Rodgers makes us a playoff team, if we can add a few key pieces in free agency this year we could easily make a deep run. I’m 100% on board with all of this. Change was a must and we’ve accomplished it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
McCarthy in today's conference hinted that they need to still be a draft and develop team BUT hinted at they need to have the area between young guys and the old guys. I took how he said it (I paraphrased) as he and the organization is going to dabble more so in FA. They have done that more so the last couple years, but I'd expect there may be a 2nd contract type player that comes in...we typically go for the old dudes or play the waiting game for deals.
I guess Russ Ball is a spitting image of Ted Thompson. And word on the street is that Mark Murphy is going to hire Ball as the new GM. Apparently he would manage very similarly to Thompson. Very conservative in free agency, make very few trades if any. Typical draft and develop style. It's even rumored that Thompson only stepped down when Mark Murphy told him that Ball would be a leading candidate. If this is true get ready for some more of the same from the Packers. Good news for you Vikings fans.
IF so....I'm guessing MM will leave as he has made it somewhat clear somethings gotta change. I have liked their FA approach lately with Cook, Bennett and Jahri all 3 were solid pick ups despite Bennett not working out. Love to see them do similar again but grab another one, pick up 2 for sure starters at a position instead of the 1 we do some years. I still wish we had a bonafide no doubt #1 outside CB...I do though think King will grow into it.
I would be upset if Ball was a clone of Thompson, the whole point here is some change. Sounds like we may pursue some type of trade for Schneider, who would be a dream. That man can build a team through multiple avenues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think its a good hire too. Personally I would have liked Wolfe, but this is great too. An open minded gm that both Rodgers and Mcarthy like. Not afraid to look into free agency and trades. Joe Philbin is back with the team as well which is great. Now just have to wait too see what happens with the defense.
Jake you were right I was wrong. I blame my lack of fact based research on my illness. Never thought a chest cold could damn near kill an old-timer like me.
Yeah I was just normal sick never had a lung issue in my life, I don't go to the Dr unless it is serious so I thought it was just a bad cough and body aches and a hard time breathing. Guess it was a little worse than I thought.
I am very happy with the hires, welcome back Joe would have never guessed he would come back to the city where he lost his son. I am also hopeful that the D coordinator hire is being delayed by figuring out compensation deals to the franchise that the Packers are hiring from.
Ron Wolf crying because his kid was not hired as GM, granted his kid has interviewed with 3 other teams and did not get hired there either but he complains because the Packers did not give him the job. Elliot is still under contract and has a job with the dream franchise in the NFL for a front office employee.
