    Hi folks.
At 62, I've decided to get back into hunting. Problem is, I've never bow hunted.
I've been doing my homework and was quick to discover that this can be an expensive sport to get into.
So, long story short, most new bows were more than I was comfortable in spending. I've been measured at 27-1/2" and was surprised to find that 60# is a bit more than I find comfortable. Perhaps, with practice, I can work my way up to 60#. For now however, 50# is more like it.

Anyway, let me get to the point.
My local shop, who's manager/tech I have come to trust, has a used Mathews Switchback 60#/28" on the rack, with an HHA single pin adjustable sight, feather biscuit, stabilizer and bow sling. I've read that this was a great bow in it's day and for me, might be a good way into the sport.

The bow looks like it was well used in that the camo in the grip area is worn down to the metal and the string needs to be replaced. Having said that, it does not look abused. The tech who is a long time archer and bow hunter, assured me there is nothing wrong with the bow that some new parts and a tuning can't fix.
After some serious negotiating and for the asking price of $345.00, he will order a new 27-1/2" cam, install new cables, string, D-loop, peep sight and black rubber parts that the string rests against top and bottom and do a complete tuning and fitting.

What do you guys think? Is there anything else I should be concerned about?
Should both cams be changed? Are there any hidden parts that could be worn out?
I'm looking forward to your responses and hope to learn from your experiences.
    Thanks!
    Fuzzy

First off welcome to the site. I really can't speak on that model Matthews as I am pretty new to the game as well. but, you are taking a similar path that I am. I bought a used Bowtech Guardian to get me started. So congrats on the pending purchase and I am sure one of the guys will pop in shortly and give some good insight.

    Fuzzy, welcome to the forums!

My brother bought a Switchback when they first came out and has been shooting it ever since. It's a great bow, and you shouldn't have any problems with it. Sounds like your proshop is doing a good job taking care of you. Welcome back to hunting and to your new obsession, Bowhunting :tu:

Welcome to the site!! That doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. I bought the bow I currently shoot used, and it has done me very well. I put new cables and string on it this past winter and I'm ready to go. Best of luck this coming season. Practice every chance you get. Muscle memory and confidence in your shot will go a long way to putting down that first deer when nerves start to go crazy

Thanks guys. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes after I've had a chance to shoot it a bit.
Nice that you don't think it was a dumb purchase.
