Ok there has been a bunch of really great running backs over the years. So who is the greatest of all time?

    Here is my top 3

    1. Walter Payton
    2. Barry Sanders
    3. Jim Brown

I think if AP continues to run the way he is he can crack the top 3 and possibly become number 1.

Walter Payton for sure. Watched one of his final games in Chicago (I think last regular season game at home) half drunk on peppermint schnaps and hot chocolate. Oh the good memories, underage drinking was somehow acceptable, haha.

Barry Sanders. Hated him as a packer fan, but wow. I've never seen someone so good at getting a 20 yard run out of a broken play/5 yard loss for everyone else.

IMO, not enough longevity to be considered. He was darn good while he lasted though.

I loved watching Bo Jackson too but like Brad said I don't think he played long enough to get to the top. I think the same thing goes for Terrell Davis.

I am guessing it has more to do with his hunting off the field than what he accomplished on the field.

If you are going short duration Eric ****erson has to be in the mix. But I left him out as well.

I would say this. If just going off people I've actually seen and remembered playing would haveta be Barry Sanders and Adrian Peterson. AP has the ability to march up through the rankings if he can stay healthy, that guys been a beast since Oklahoma.

No. What he was able to do as an athlete in such a short period of time. Probably helps that I was a young kid that was impressionable when he was playing. I'd put his best up against anyone's out there.

    AP is a freak though.

I hate the cowboys so it hurts me to say it, but Emmitt Smith deserves to be mentioned somewhere on this list.

I think he would if we were making a top ten list.

Barry Sanders was the best I've ever seen. Payton is a close second. Heck, I'd put Marshall Faulk above Smith. JMO...

As far as sheer athletic ability I agree Barry Sanders is way better than Smith. As far as career achievements though emmitt smith is definitely up there.
