We have the thread devoted to our favorite, and there were alot of good actors listed. Now for the one who we think is the "best" ever.

    - please, no Sean William Scott's ;)

It's hard to say who the best is because so many different actors play different roles. It's like arguing who is the best basketball player of all time, it's simply too broad of a subject.

But I think of Will Smith mainly because of what he did on Fresh Prince (comedic sitcom) to the roles he's played in lately. Everything from Ali to Bad Boys to Hancock to Hitch to Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds. He's so talented he can play any role well.

    Of ALL time??? Man....GREAT question.

I can only give you who I feel is the greatest of MY time. I've thought about this a lot, in recent years....and I know it's highly subjective. But....his roles have made me a believer.

    Tom Hanks

Yeah he's up there for sure. Forest Gump is one of the best (and I would imagine most difficult) roles I've seen, plus his many other great roles. Granted, I know NOTHING about acting:D

Sean Connery would be up there, along with Al Pachino and Robert De Niro.

Jack Nicholson. I mean come on. The Shining. As Good As It Gets. Could there possibly be 2 other roles on such opposite ends of the spectrum? The man is incredible.

Jennifer Aniston has my vote as far as actress is concerned.

Mel Gibson is a pretty good pick...Braveheart was great

tom hanks? really?? good, not greatest
will smith? really?? are you serious?? pfft
denzel? a personal favorite, but nowhere near 'greatest' status
    pacino? top 10
    deniro? top 5

in my eyes, calling someone 'greatest of all time' is tough, I look for under-rated actors, ones who usually have tiny roles but often steal entire movies... actors that are never typecast and can do anything... people like Dustin Hoffman come to mind... another highly underrated but always great actor - steve buscemi... and in modern times, Johnny Depp has shown incredible flexibility in his characters and quality of work... Willem Dafoe is another to oft overlooked great actor... Marlon Brando can not be overlooked either... lets not forget Anthony Hopkins and Robert Duvall...

picking just one is ridiculous... however, if you pinned me down, I'd say Johnny Depp...

There are lots of great actors. One of my favorites is a guy that rarely gets lead rolls but IMO one of the greatest supporting actors of all time. John Goodman. The Big Labowski wouldn't have been the same without him. He was great as the coach in Revenge of the Nerds, made the show Rosanne watchable, awsome in Barton Fink and was the perfect actor for The Babe. He was hillarious as Linda Tripp on SNL during the whole Bubba Clinton/Monica scandal. Oh and he can sing too.

great movies, sure, but hanks didn't make those movies... they were almost all ensemble casts (with great directors) that made those movies... imho, and this of course is strictly opinion, the best acting job hanks has done so far was BY FAR Philadelphia... and with the exception of SPR and Gump, the rest were only ~ok~ anyway... just my opinion of course... I thought pilly was an OK movie, but hanks acting elevated it... castaway was a self indulgent piece of crap...

edit to add - don't get me wrong, i like tom hanks, but calling him greatest of all time, i just can't get on board with it yet...
