We're having very unseasonal weather here in PA, so I abandoned the work on the room remodel (ok, I did put one final coat of polyurethane on the window sills), and headed outside. I've been meaning to getting around to frost seeding my clover plot, but I kept putting it off. Not that clover really NEEDS the freezing/thawing to germinate if not being tilled in, it's always a nice reassurance. We're not due for below freezing temps this coming week, but it will be close as well as rainy. I frost seeded ~5lbs of ladino (it's a .75 acre plot), and hopefully it helps fill in some (this plot is on it's 4th year, but should still be going strong). Here's the plot as it stands today: Hopefully it looks like this by fall (take last year): Decided to pick up a load of wood at the bottom of the plot my dad cut up this winter (I was almost all done cutting/splitting my firewood at this time last year...I'm behind). The last item for today was to get a soil sample for a potential future plot this season. It's an ~2acre pasture (only planning to plant .5-.75 acres of it). Depending on the soil test results, the plan is to plow, lime, then plant Buckwheat in May, till it under in late July/August, and then possibly planting brassicas/turnips. If need be, I will just plant winter rye with the another crop (possibly brassicas, but maybe an annual clover), till it under in late May next year, and then start a good solid late season plot. Here's some pictures of the plotsite:
Here's what we're looking for (clover greening up): Of course, I had to get some pictures of our trust spring tooth harrow: Hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather today (those who had it:D).
Sure did Matt, I took care of a major "Hunny-Do" putting in RR ties for flower beds. I think took my two one bottom plows for my four wheeler up to the welder, they need some touch up. I am getting ready for spring. Great day today.
You and I had similar days buddy. This past two days we've been doing soil prep. work for our food plots as well as getting in some firewood and doing other odds and ends chores around the property. The weather has been too pretty around here to do anything but!
It's always cool to see other folks' foodplots. We headed out to our farm yesterday to pattern my kids' turkey guns and see what our plots were lookin' like. Of course yesterday was 65 degrees and now today it was only 30 with a couple inches of snow!!!
