Opening morning of turkey season was near perfect. After many days of wind and rain, we finally had a clear, still morning that the turkey's seemed to enjoy as much as we did. I took a friend to one of my places and had the single best hunt I have ever had. We were both archery hunting. I took the first gobbler to come in and he was all alone. He came right out of the roost and strutted the length of a new two acre clover field to 10 yards and I waited until he was broadside and dumped him on his back with a Muzzy 100. After picking him up, we crawled back into the blind. He was 24 lbs. 15 ounces and has 1 1/2" spurs and a 10 1/2" beard. A couple hours later, we were covered up with birds. My buddy dumped one at about 12 yards and three more gobblers started thrashing him. I gave him the green light to take another and he made a second perfect shot at about 17 yards. He wanted me to take my second bird as there were several more gobblers working over his second bird, but I really was not ready to be tagged out so soon. I knew I would regret not hunting more than one morning of the season. I'm really glad now that I have more hunting to do. His best bird was 23 lbs. and had 1 3/8" spurs. The other was 21 lbs. and had 1 1/4" spurs. Three shots, three birds, and three arrows recovered in perfect condition. Better lucky than good sometimes!
Awesome! I hope I can pick up some that luck you left on the table. I just canceled 4/6 scheduled days off, with plans to tack them onto my rut-cation this fall. Congrats on an amazing hunt!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It was perfect in all aspects. One of those hunts that will be re-told a few thousand times around the Spring turkey camp fire.
