I bought 40 acres 2 years ago. hardwoods, swampy, thick nasty in the summer but thin during the fall and winter months. I WAITED a year before i did anything. i learned the current strengths and weaknesses of the property, why and where the deer moved, and where they bedded. I got alot of advice from several people. i decided to make bedding first, because food is a quick fix. The hinge cutting and bed making took a chainsaw, sweat and hard work. The bedding areas are holding deer now from early spring (no foliage) I jumped a few bucks 2 weeks ago when i was nosy and took a walk through. I also cleared about 2 acres to get ready for next spring planting of apple trees and pear trees. Bedding first, food later.
