I went to cabelas today as they were having a sale on zeiss conquest 3x9x40 scopes for $299, regular price is $499. I had planned on buying four of them, keeping one, seeing if my buddy wanted one and then selling two on ebay and making 50-75 bucks per scope. When I was at the counter they said they had 7 left. I said I will take 4 of them, and there were 3 other guys behind me who wanted one. Ends up 3 of the 7 were different scopes and they actually only had 4 left. I could see the disappointment and anxiousness on the other customers so I said I will only take one so everyone there can get one. Made my way over to the fishing section and was going to look at a quantum tour baitcaster on special for $129. Ends up they never even recieved the quantums they had advertised. There was even a quantum rep there who was perplexed about the whole thing. There was a customer who had never used a baitcaster and asked me some questions about them. I am no expert but I know a little about them. The guy at the counter says we can replace the quantum with another reel and buy it at the sale price. I had talked the customer into getting a smoke 7.1.1, because he said he was going to use it in a small pond with lots of lilly pads and mostly use frogs. Ends up they only had one smoke in the place and its the demo. I asked if I could substitute a curado 300ej for the quantum. There is a $50 dollar difference in the msrp of the two reels. So i said I would pay an extra $20 and put the price of the curado at 149.99, with an msrp of $269. The guy said sure, i could not believe it. When we go to the counter he writes $139 on the box and said how is this? I said that is great. I got the last curado 300 in the box they had. The other customer bought the display curado for the same price. I walked out with $779 worth of merchandise for $449. My wife was not happy, especially since we are going to disney in two weeks with the kids, so I told her I would sell them both, but honestly, i don't see myself parting with the scope or the reel.
It certainly is an amazing reel. i have a couple of nice revos that I really enjoy but I have never owned a reel of this caliber. now I am going to have to find a nice rod to pair it with. I am going to have to splurge and get something like a g. Loomis or dobyns.
Check out Kistler rods if you get a chance. Hard to find in stores, so odds are you wont get to feel one first, will have to order online. But they are great rods for sure. I have a few myself and when I can afford them they are my first choice. The owners father was the founder of loomis and they use loomis blanks on their higher end rods. Great stuff for sure and I dont think you would be let down.
