My wife took this picture this morning just after I left for work. The dogs were going crazy when I left the house, I was afraid they were chasing a deer or fawn, but this is what they were up to.

I think this was in the middle. She said our dog chased the yote back into the timber.

That is either a huge coyote or a small great dane!

I think a bit of both. Our dog stands a little over 3 foot tall to the top of his head, probably about 28-30 inches to the top of the back. We think he's a mix w. something else, so he didn't get huge, but he's still a very big dog. I would say that's a large Coyote also.

Don't let you dog get nipped by that thing. Something might be wrong with it. Usually, unless cornered, coyotes do not stand their ground with dogs. Maybe you can dispatch it.

I hunt Coyotes with hounds and they will stand their ground to 2 or 3 hounds at times. But that's a mistake on their part when doing so. If the Dane is current on shots there is nothing to worry about.

Awesome photo! I have a few German Shepherds out on my farm, every night they are chasing coyotes and keeping them at bay from our chickens.

To bad you couldn't follow the coyote up with a tasty .223 for it to digest.

Often the 'yotes lure an unsuspecting dog into an ambush.

'Yotes are very smart whereas dogs are dependent on humans.

I agree, but I think this is more a case of my dogs protecting their territory. Our field was freshly hayed, and it's common for coyotes to head right to fresh cut hay fields looking for an easy meal. I suspect that is the case here, and my dogs say him and cornered him. My wife said that what you don't see, is our blue healer in the timber, just on the other side trapping the coyote. I went down there last night, and it is very think hedge tree behind they coyote, so he couldn't even turn and run.

If I had been home, he would have gotten a taste of my 270 WSM.
