This year, I have somehow been getting lost......alot!! lol I don't know what the deal is, but I figured I would ask for a GPS for Christmas to put a stop to this.

What what would you recommend. I don't need anything fancy, but I would like for it to have ariel maps or topo on it if those even exist. Thanks in advance.

Do a quick search cuz I remember sevaral post related to this very subject in just the last few months.

I have a few gps units but hands down my favorite is my Garmin Rino. It has a built in 2way radio and electronic compass. It also allows you to sync with other Rino users so you can see where they are and vice versa. Great feature if you have buddies that use gps units.

I ended up with the Rino 530hcx. I love it. I ended up saving $$$ and ordering maps from gpsfiledepot.com for it and didn't pay a dime. They are 24k maps just like what you would pay another $100 for from Garmin, and they are completely free.

Simple, gpsfiledepot.com has them for free. Download them, then transfer them to your memory card and then your in business!

Think I got them installed but I don't seem to have much room on my memory card. Will have to upgrade that.

I have the Garmin Vista and e-trexH. I have had the Bushnell Onyx, but took it back. For the money, the e-trexH is by far and away the best out there. And for $99, you just can't go wrong. It gets a signal anywhere also.

A couple years ago I bought a Magellan Explorist 500 on sale for $170. It came with topo mapping software, but they don't make the explorist line anymore. It's a really good gps, I use it when I go to Mammoth Cave National Park to gather Morel mushrooms( wild mushrooms, edible and non toxic). I've been about 3m. in and it always leads me back. Was one of the best investments I've made. Those are some deep woods and It's real easy to get turned around when your 2 or 3 miles in. I've heard the new Magellans aren't very good. If were to buy a new one I would check out the Garmin or a Lowrance.
