Today on the news, a reporter claimed that the republicans are threatening to shut the government down by not giving into the democrat's and president's plan. Aren't the democrats equally responsible by refusing to work together (compromise) with the republicans? I think we need to flush twice and start over.

Definitely think that's biggest problem. Neither side wants to work togethern on anything, they just want to stop whatever the other side wants.

Slugger, the house passed a bill that would guarantee military pay even if the government shut down and the POTUS says if it passes the senate, he will veto it.

I bet we will still have to pay taxes through the shutdown though, the whole shutdown mess ticks me off.

I can't fathom how the executive and legislative branches get to continue getting paid for not doing their jobs during a shutdown, but the military and the elderly are threatened with having to go without pay.

This is the most dysfunctional government that I can remember. They have not accomplished anything positive in the last five years. Neither side will compromise and they are not willing to do what is right for the American people, they only want to grow the government.

This. I'm so tired of both democrats and republicans alike. Neither side has the best interest of America in mind.

That's because the POTUS and most of people in DC don't care about the people serving country until they need them. I saw this happen all the time being a Embassy guard, was frustrating as hell just having to smile and walk away.

Well considering they held up our pay in 2011 for same circumstances while I was in Afghanistan, I have no faith in Obama supporting the troops one single bit. He made the comment that the Republicans need to give in and realize they won't get 100% there way, yet apparently Obama thinks he will get %100 his way? This **** is getting old, stop being a bunch of overpaid *******s on Capitol Hill and do what is right for the country. And yes, pay was held up in 2011 at mid month pay and the soldiers who didn't get the full amount did get it back the next month at least.

I really wish those of us not in the government could just shut down when we have a disagreement. Next time I argue about finances with my wife I would like to just "shut down" and not pay bills for a while and have everything else just continue like normal. Our government is crap.

Didn't the "American people" cast the deciding vote in the 2012 presidential elections? Just sayin' "repeal Obamacare" was pretty much the only platform the GOP had (before Benghazi).

BTW the funniest thing is that Ted Cruz didn't even understand the moral of Green Eggs and Ham when he read it!!! What a joke!

    More so

The republicans actually passed a bill that would prevent the shut down.

Obamacare is but a shell of what was originally passed that it really isn't even the same thing that was jammed down our throats originally.

The house is right for not funding it.

    Election results from 2012.

    Barack H. Obama 65,917,257 51.01% 332 61.7%
    Willard Mitt Romney 60,932,235 47.16% 206 38.3%

Obama won the popular vote by less than 5 million votes, so by the sound of your tag line, you don't believe that 1.6% of the US population should determine the views of the entire population. Just sayin'

I think both sides have the mental capacity of 6 year olds. Instead of pointing fingers, they should be resolving issues. I know the republicans passed a bill in the house to avoid shutdown, but they also pointed fingers. When you point your finger at a juvenile and blame them, they will point their finger back and blame you instead of being responsible. They should have just replied "We did what we could to get a bill through to keep the government running. Now it is in the Senate and President's hands." That way everyone knows where to focus. As far as a higher debt ceiling and Obamacare, I don't think the majority of Americans want that.

Wouldn't it be fun to see those percentages based on who actually paid any taxes into they system? I guess it seems that the ones paying the bill are getting a little tired.

By the way, did you know that raising the debt ceiling wont raise our national debt? At least according to our President it wont. Not sure why this time would be any different than the last hundred times, but apparently he knows something we don't....lol.
