Exactly. I have a problem with John Q. Public being given permission by a government agency to put up a camera for the sole purpose of catching illegal activity on public land. Are you allowed to run trail cameras for deer on this state property Ty?
Interesting discussion, that's for sure. I am just curious at what point, one loses the joy of hunting to catch a poacher... and to what end? The question I might ask myself... does this at some point become just about winning?
It's a state preserve which is still public but doesn't allow hunting and there are state game lands which are public and do allow hunting. Conservation/preservation is just as vital to managing game as hunting and trapping is but both are paid for by hunters and game conservation donations. Ty just provided the means to prompt further investigation, just like a tip hotline to the police department or the poacher tip hotline. It doesn't necessarily mean they will use those pictures other than to identify the person. Same goes when they ask a victim to identify the criminal even though they catch the guy red handed.
Maybe a guy shot the deer on his place and the deer died over the fence so he went and got it.......crowd?
No point arguing with Dan, he can never be wrong and his opinion is more important than yours Ty, even though he doesn't live where you are, hasn't spoken with the DNR....but because he thinks it's BS you are wrong for doing so. LOL
does the concept of TIP (Turn In Poachers) end at your property line? As tax payers, we all "own" a bit of that public land, and therefore are stewards of it. The land is held in the public's trust for the benefit of said public. It's not like Ty is going onto the dude's private property and setting up a camera to catch the guy shooting deer w/ illegal equipment or anything. COs in Indiana are underfunded, overworked, and spread too thin. Poachers know this. What Ty did is no different than Neighborhood Watch in a high crime area.
No its called you being your usual condescending and arrogant self. It's funny how you will go into your admin mode on other people yet most of your posts are you acting like you are better than everyone on the forums. It gets old, I won't say more because I don't feel like dealing with you breaking out your ban stick.
I think you guys are completely missing the point I'm trying to make. But, before I repeat it all again, I'm curious to know the answer to the last question I asked Ty. Can you run trail cams on the state property to scout (inventory) for deer?
Quit making a fool of yourself dude. I'm having a discussion with people and once again you're following me, babbling about nothing and adding nothing to the thread. BTW, I resigned from the staff a long time ago, so next time you flip out and start swearing at people and calling them names, it won't be me who bans you.
Regardless of whether you are admin or not now, you are still an arrogant ******bag. Enjoy your night moron.
I am gonna have to agree with the position that Ty has taken on this. We also have a poaching problem around here, and I happen to have strong ties to a couple game wardens and the department. These guys appreciate every effort by the public to help them catch anybody doing illegal activity. The location of any poaching doesn't matter, it's all wrong and robs everybody of our resources. I for one am all for doing everything within ones own power (and legally of course) to help catch any poachers regardless of what animal it is.
In my opinion I don't care how the SOB was caught he was caught. If someone had to kick in his door to get him so be it. He got permission to be there and do what he did, I'm all for it and applaud him for his helping hand it. I've had the same thing going on the private land I hunt, finding numerous dead deer with heads or horns missing. How can we as hunters and conservationists let scum bags get off the hook? Ain't happening with me, you better believe if I find someone doing that garbage on my land I will do everything I can to make sure he gets his.
