Absolutely. We cut pretty much 99% of our wood after hunting season (around Jan-Apr). It's just better weather, less ground tear up, and it gives the wood a head start on seasoning (even if it's standing dead wood). I will say, I'm actually looking forward to this season since we're going to pull the trigger on a ductless heat pump, so I won't have to rely strictly on the wood stove which is inadequate given its location and the layout of the house.
I heat only with wood also, mine is the outdoor boiler though. Im heating 2,500 sq ft with it not including the basement. I have no idea how many cords of wood I use. If I have the carport full it will get me by each winter! I have new roof on carport since these pics that matches my pole building.
Bought new house last year, house was set up for a outdoor boiler but it had a cracked casing. Replaced with brand new one and also built garage so put infloor heat. love the floor heat, garage is always at least 55 degrees. also in garage have x-tra heater so if i want it 80 in there it only takes bout 1 hour and it is a 2 storry garage.
I run a semi chisel skip tooth chain on ultra hard stuff. lets the saw maintain power a little better. this isnt all the saws, but this was the start lol the blue one is the go to for bigger and harder woods... heh its a Makita dcs6401 aka Dolmar 6400. fantastic saws, and home depot usually sells them for insane cheap from their rental department! usually around 200 bucks. thats about 500 bucks savings. the log is a piece of very well dried maple that my buddy had laying in his yard for about 3 years and couldn't cut up. 28" bar with a semi chisel skip tooth forester chain.
