Not what you're thinking! I'm talking Firewood. I've been doing some land clearing for a food plot and have accumulated a bit of firewood. I've got a pretty decent system for making firewood. First..... carry it out of the woods with the grapple. Second..... when you get some logs cut them into lengths and split them. I showed the GF how to use the backhoe thumb so she grabs the logs and holds them while I saw. After the logs are all cut, I feed the log splitter and she runs it and fills the bucket of the tractor. When full, we run over to the appropriate log rack and fill it. We have 6 racks, one by the fire pit and 5 where we process the wood. Even though my GF burns wood like no other, I believe that I already have next years wood ready to go! The farthest rack is all hickory. Good for cooking. The next one closer is Cherry. Also for cooking.
You've got your **** together Greg! I burn between 140 to 200 tree's a year. My set up sucks. I need a grapple and forks for my 1995 1845C Case Skidsteer. I also split everything by hand with a splitting mall and wedge. Yep, I need to get with the times. Great stuff Greg. This might get me motivated to get me some attachments for my skidsteer.
Greg, very cool - thanks for sharing. What's your saw? Steve - how is burning that many trees possible, or practical? Teach me, chief! (sidenote - thanks for the bday wishes!)
Here's what you need: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...t-Chainsaw-amp-Logsplitter-the-debate-is-over
Your welcome buddy on the b-day wishes!! I heat my house, garage and my shop where I work on my milk truck. I have a wood boiler outside with water lines that go to each place underground that I listed. It greatly depends on how long and cold the winter Is. Last year I burned half of what I cut, It was an awesome winter weather wise but definitely not the norm.
Most are at least 20 Inches across. Some are smaller. The splitter Mark showed wouldn't work for me. I'd just be happy with a grapple like Greg has and some forks.
Guy's thanks for the comments. ICALL2MUCH, My main saw is a MS361 pro saw w/20" bar and my limbing saw is a MS017 w/14" bar. Steve, I have pushed over/dug out close to 200 trees since I got the grapple in January. Between the grapple and the backhoe thumb, I really save on chains for the saws. It's nice to keep them out of the dirt.
I'll tell you what Fletch, you buy one (with skidloader) and I'll let you share it with me. I think this is very generous on my part as I usually would not make this kind of generous offer!
