A little while back I received an e-mail soliciting my help in funding a huge raffle to benefit the Illinois DNR... Now this:

YOUR CHANCE FOR AN ILLINOIS POPE AND YOUNG BUCK

The Illinois Conservation Foundation will host the First Annual Illinois Celebrity Whitetail Hunt at Heartland Outfitters in Adams and Brown counties on November 1–7, 2010, and YOU’RE INVITED.

This 6–night, 5–day archery hunt includes lodging, meals, refreshments, guides, tree stands, processing, licenses, permits, and transportation to and from local airports.
You’ll hunt and rub shoulders with both current and past major league baseball players. Plus, we’ll throw in one of the world's best Mixed Martial Arts Fighters.
You’ll also receive an Elite Archery bow and camo travel case, valued at more than $1,000.

Your cost is $4,800 and a portion of that cost is tax deductible.

The raffle and the celebrity hunt is actually a fund raiser for the Illinois Conservation Foundation.

The ICF is a 501 (c) (3) non profit group that is staffed by folks appointed by the IDNR and politicians but it is a separate entity from the IDNR. Sorta. Kinda. I think it was created so that it could take private donations and government grants for IDNR projects and not worry that it's funds would be raided by the governor. (This has happened to the IDNR)

So you signing up for the hunt? ;)

Then they would have to raise the price to $6500. They are trying to keep it affordable! ;)
