straight out of the bow and to the saw, 29" and fletched with my aae ez fletch bolt.( after a quick modification ) all glued up with my my muzzy 130's, arrow is 580gwalked out back and took 3 shots at 20/30/40 yards and cant believe how dart like they are. my last few shots were at 40 yards with a breeze and still got 3" groups. put broadheads on them and tryed again, same grouping at all the tested yardages. very happy with alloy arrows, no more carbon for me =]
What's carbon got to do with it? I can do that with quality carbons. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
i didnt post this to ruffle anyones feathersi nor ever mentioned that i didnt like carbon arrows. i used carbon for the last 2 years. i like the price of alloy arrows and like the fact that i dont have to add weight to them like i did carbon, but with the price or carbons its too costly since i go through many arrows. i also like the construction of aluminum arrows over carbons.
Didn't ruffle my feathers. Just asked what carbon had to do with your decision to go to aluminum. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
gotcha, mainly; price, weight and more surface area that the insert sticks to. small game hunting makes arrows vanish
Price I feel ya but weight is all relative now though, some very small carbon arrows that gpi are up there with any others. Also I like the least amount of resistance when my arrow is making contacting and going through the body of an animal..not the other way. I've thought a lot about the Alaska Bowhunting tapered arrows, their slight taper makes the arrow bigger at the tip and taper towards the fletching...if it goes through bone it honestly just falls through the hole the tip creates because it has less surface area. For deer not totally necessary now if I was boar hunting or going on safari's I'd definitely buy them...for deer I'll probably hold off though. (deer are pretty easy to kill to be honest)
Why not use judo points? I would think aluminum would bend easy like all mine did when I first started. Do you need that much weight for small game?
the dia made me slightly concerned but i figured if there was a nation wide issue about aluminum arrows not killing we would all know about it. and since it looks like many use them for trad-archery, my compound bow should have enough " power " to be successful with them. and i like the weight because my bow becomes super quiet, i had to make a back brace for my carpet target because id knock it back after a few shots =P it seems like my groups are tighter in the wind too, which really made me want heavier arrows
