Well, I shot it opening day of bow season (Oct.1) just haven't posted about it yet. I hunt on 40 acres most is corn field surrounded by swamp and 6 acres are forest. I have a stand as close to the edge of the corn field as I can but it's still about a 15 yard shot to the edge that I can only shoot 6 rows deep. I wasn't expecting much because it was my first hunt of the year but a doe and a fawn walked right down the field exactly where I wanted them to and then turned left into the field. For the next hour and a half the two walked back and forth ALWAYS missing my open lane until a dog barked and they ran off. This was the closest I have ever been to getting a shot and I even drew my bow back 5 times! So, after they ran off I sat down and just chuckled to myself at how close I was and all of a sudden there was another deer coming in, this time from the woods! This deer gave me no time to stand up or anything walked right in, this time to my left, and stopped broadside at about 17 yards. It looked just like to doe I had been trying to shoot for an hour and a half so I drew back settled and released. Not a perfect shot but a good one. I recovered my first deer I ever shot at and it only ran about 100 yards! It was a button buck but I was (am) super happy to have that first ever deer and man does it taste good! I only have one pic and it is not a very good one but I'll post it anyway. Sorry it's such a long story but thanks for reading about my first deer!
congrats man! That will be a hunt you will never forget and will end up telling the story to your grandkids one day,
Congrats i also shot my first deer opening day this year. It was a yearling but i couldnt have been happier with her. The rush was amazing and i bet you felt that as well. I know i cant wait to feel that rush again.
Thanks guys! It was an amazing experience and it made me put that much more into my season! Super bummed it's all over for me now in the Mitten.
