Kind of addendum to the other post of figuring out this game... Do you/ Have you taken your "game" to that next level? Meaning killing mature/trophy bucks on a consistant basis?

Everyone's definition of mature and consistant will vary greatly.

Ok...lets for this instance say 4.5 years or older is considered Mature. I would say consistant is objective but if you've taken more than 7 p&y deer... you're pretty darn consistant.

Well said and I probably should have started by saying that my enjoyment comes from the challenge of traveling, scouting, setups, shot placement... and if that all comes together... Well, lets just go with the old saying, "Its the journey, not the destination".

Another factor I have to remind myself of is location. A trophy in NC is not the same as say Iowa.

Im still soaking in everything i can when it comes to bowhunting. Hell, i learned something (about my property, mostly that back ridge) from the two days i spent helping you. Ive only been at this with a bow for 3 years so i consider myself a greenhorn still.

Shoot, I haven't met up to that yet either. I feel like every year I'm learning more about Big Bucks and it's slowly coming together.

I will say this: I remember Myles Keller saying that "Hunting Big Bucks is not deer hunting. It's like hunting a different animal all together."

Over last couple years I've learned there's no truer statement.

Come on now. P&Y quality bucks are so relative to the area you hunt it is ridiculous. That statement is not fiction, it is reality.

I agree and if you look at one of my earlier posts, I say that.

No I do not have it figured out. I have never killed a mature buck and I have hunted 17 years, 8-9 of which I have hunted pretty hard. In the last 4 years I had a total of 2 mature bucks within range, both last year but could not close the deal. I am so far off from having it figured out it is sick.

I really do not know for sure. I kill deer every year, but I do NOT kill a mature buck every year, most years I don't. By your standards not even close. I have the majority of deer hunting figured out, b

I can say with 100% honesty... I have picked the wrong setup MANY, MANY more times than I picked the right one. :deer:

    Make your own conclusion.
