He wasn't moving fast at this point going by blood. His foot prints are deep like he is getting weak and falling hard on each step. That was the last text I sent the wife. I am down to drips. First thirty was almost nothing. Then 20 feet of blood. I am probably 160-200 yds into trail. now. 30 yards into trail. That goes like that for 20ish feet. I will not give up. Almost out of meat in the freezer. Alex Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good possibility. It's been 3 hours sense the shot. I waited an hour before starting. Alex Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
how far away was the pool of blood from the shot? I think he stopped/ laid down and you bumped him. I would back out in hopes he would lay back down.
it's not heart, liver or lung, which leaves muscle or gut shot. can't be heart or he'd be down. can't be lung, no bubbles, probably not liver, blood isn't dark enough. Where did you hit him?
It does look and act as a muscle hit. Don't give up until you know. Give him some time as cablebob suggested.
The picture with the couple of drops in it sure looks awfully pinkish. I would say maybe a minor lung hit or an artery hit. Either way Id back out and give him a few hours before picking it back up. ETA: That pick with a good amount of blood does look like muscle though. Tough call but I would definitely back out. Tell us more about the shot.
Fingers crossed for you... sure looks like a tough trail... do you have a dog? If so you may want to consider stopping for help.
Ungortunatly I think y'all are right with muscle. The arrow looked like it was on the right track. Arrow is still MIA along with the deer. I'm afraid I did bump him. I left and came back to my last blood spot and searched. No more blood. I'm not writing him off yet. I think I'm gonna go change and get something to eat. Come back out in a few hours. Thanks for the encouragement. Alex Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fingers crossed for you... sure looks like a tough trail... do you have a dog? If so you may want to consider stopping for help. Find a friend with a dog... a beagle, birdog or lab... something with a good nose. A bumped deer that isn't bleeding is really tough to find.
Sometimes they will double back on the same trail and then head left or right. I know it's tough, but on a muscle hit, you do want to keep pushing the deer. On a gut shot, you don't. I would go to last blood and back track looking at both the left and right side of the trail. Look for thick cover, or towards water. I don't know if you will find him, without the arrow or a shot placement description, I'm gonna say you hit high in the shoulder, going over the spine. Just my two scents. Good luck!
I did this last year on a nice but, I hit high, above the lungs, upper shoulder...tons of blood, then a broken arrow and trees smeared with blood that he ran through....then gone. I was sure he was down, but now I think I just kept pushing him. I have walked miles and now, almost a year later...never found him. You made the right call, I would get a dog in action!
I brought my beagle out. She found him still alive 8 hours after the shot. He ran off property across the road. No blood anywhere on his trail. 200 yards from last blood was his bed. No blood in his bedding. Dry blood just above shoulder. He lived. I feel a bit better. Alex Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sorry you didn't get him. Glad your beagle found him. Keep at it. Maybe check your bow and practice a couple shots. Something might have got bumped outta whack.
