First time bowman, always been a rifleman. I purchased some equipment based on lots of research. Received equipment and started shooting after reading every guide possible, but still had a hic-up. When shooting toward target, peep did not line up as I thought. Arrow landed left of target and went through 3/4 inch plywood. Cut the area around the arrow. Took some finer tools and carefully split the wood around the arrow and removed it. Visually inspected the arrow and also put it through the flex test. No cracks, no splits or loose fibers noted, no cracking sounds during the flex test. Is this arrow still usable? Or should I just toss it? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Been there done that and reused several arrows that went through stockade fencing. If it is not cracking when you twist and flex it, you should be ok. Having said that, a Beaman ICS hunter exploded at the Bass Pro range after pulling it from a 3d bear target. It was my fault for not testing it. It sounded like a 22 shot when it happened and some shards hit my hand, but didn't break the skin.
Next time just spin the field point off and slide the arrow back out. I would say it sounds fine. I've gone through 1/2" plywood before and continued shooting that arrow. Just inspect it often, a small crack could grow into something visible.
