After 10 years or so I figured I'd get a new climber so I asked for the Summit Goliath SD for Christmas. For the life of me I can't remember what brand my old one is. Anyhow, I just finished putting it together and did a test climb. It is light as advertised......21lbs. Comfortable to, I always thought my old climber was comfortable so I had no doubts the Summit would be as well. Much quieter than my old one and the quick draw cable system is an improvement from my old one. With my old one, you had to pull a pin to adjust the cable and make sure the cable loop was in line with one of the holes in the bar before placing the pin back in. After climbing with the Goliath, my opinion of climbing stands remains the same..........They are a pain in the ***. I don't use a climber exclusively but its nice to have one to simply have the ability to change hunting locations on short notice. I like the fixed stirrups, its much easier to get your feet in position to climb than fumbling with a foot strap where your feet never stay secured. Also the powder coat finish on the Goliath is poor. Just putting the stand together and performing one test climb, the finish is chipped in many places already. I hope to use it a couple of times before the end of January so we'll see how how it performs in a real world application.
I have 2 summit vipers and an older API (whatever the big one is) and I love the summits.....it's like anything else the more you use them the easier it gets. I hunt probably 95% of the time out of a climber.
They are great stands for sure. I just sold mine after all these years to try lone wolf out...we will see Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
Like the Summitt Razor so far, but the Milenium Hang on M100 is still the stand I go to for the long sits. It is like sitting in a lazy boy. The utility of a climber is great, but I am still a hang on guy most of the time. Lots more tree options.
