.........And I shot right over the gobblers back at 25 yards ... As his head got behind some brush and a tree, I drew back. When I drew back, a fox squirrel to my left and behind (who has been very annoying lately) went crazy when he saw me move.... The gobbler didn't like that, he got nervous and started putting and took a couple more steps but stopped. I had a good shot, so I settled and released, and the arrow zipped above his back about an inch or 2... No excuses, I got beard fever and blew the shot. He was a nice one, 9-10 inch beard. It would have been my 3rd turkey of 2009 but my first ever with a bow and my first ever shot opportunity period, on a bird at our Indiana farm. Ah, bowhunting.... That is all..
Man I feel for ya. That would have been sweet but as you said its bowhuntin :D Bear fever,, I like that (funny) I had never bought a Fall tag and have oportunities every year at Toms, so this year I bought one and havent had a shot yet
Ha, thanks for the support...It could have been worse, I could have wounded him. Just one of those things.. I made a nice 25 yard vitals shot on a late season doe FAWN (:D) last year, but that is a bigger target .. 25 yards is a chip shot to most of you guys...Call me crazy, but I hate 25 yard shots. I'd rather shoot 30 (my max).. Next time, Ol' Mr. Longbeard won't be so lucky.. I'm determined.
Get him next time. I had ten turkeys come up to me yesterday. The closest ones were only 11 yards away. The lead hen noticed me then and they backed off to about 20-30 yards and started scratching around in the leaves. It was really cool. Unfortunately, no archery turkey hunting is allowed where I hunt. (which is why they probably didn't really run off when they noticed me)
