I, of course, would not own any such barbaric things like handguns. But if I did, this would be the one that I'd keep next to/in the bed. Beretta 92F A fairly sexy, utilitarian gun. I would also not ever have owned a ruger vaquero in .44, or a S&W .38 chief's special. Nice guns guys. (even if you are barbarians)
Nice! I just picked up a new friend yesterday myself...I'm feeling lazy this morning so to save me from getting into my safe and taking a picture, I figured I could use the photo from the DPMS web site...
I only have one pistol, a Makarov 380. I had a Rossi 357 (King Cobra knock off) for a few years. I couldn't have hit the broadside of a barn with it. I'd like to get a new hand cannon sometime.
You guys wait till Matt / PA posts a picture of his dirty harry gun. Pat, your lucky to have found one of those. I'm gonna have to post some pics tonight of my AR project now that it's completely done, only thing I'm still waiting on is a single stage JP fire control assembly. I also managed to squirrel away a "few" rounds for it too.
Oooo, black scary gun. Pat is my hero. Buttonbuckmaster, I had Rossi .22 revolver, (S & W knock-off). It was the most inaccurate revolver (or any type of gun) I've ever had. I used it to dispatch trapped critters so it was no big deal but dang, the bullets must have come out it sideways or something. Friends would grab it all cocky like and shoot it to 'show me how it's done' only to sheepishly hand it back and declare that there was something really wrong with it. :D
I can't speak for other states, but we can't deer hunt with a semi auto here. The other main benefit IMO is as a self defense/sidearm, it can't jam like a semi could. I like pistols, I just always seem to spend my $$ on rifles and shotguns.
my mom bought one of these for my dad for christmas this past year... nice guns, I just have a personal grievance with S&W after that friggin trigger/gun lock fiasco yrs ago... personally I pack an FN Herstal Five-seveN Tactical to go along with my Ruger Vaquero 45LC and my Kimber 1911
I would like to get one someday soon. A guy I used to work with has 3 of them and we went to the range a few times to shoot them. They are unbelievable. The power is really way more then any handgun should have but they sure are fun to shoot!
Personal preference & intended use. Like said, many states don't allow semi's for hunting. Revolvers are pretty tough to mess up. autos can jam but many out there are pretty darn reliable. Semis have more capacity. Personally I share no bias towards either one, room in the safe for both. & if that runs out...I'll buy another safe
You'd have to try pretty hard to get a beretta 92 to jam up. I shoot a revolver better than I do a semi-auto but then again, all the semi-autos I've shot are too big for my hands. (I need to get a litte Kahr Arms subcompact.) Anyhoo, I like the semi-autos for my traveling weapon. Illinois does not allow concealed carry but you can carry a weapon as long as it is unloaded and in a case. Having to take a revolver out of the case and load it (even with a speed loader) is much slower than pushing a loaded magazine into a semi-auto and droping the slide. I may sound paranoid but I travel/hunt by myself and have a proven track record of being a weirdo magnet.
Actually the number one reason for a revolver, in the hunting world, over a pistol is power. An auto loader can't handle the load pressures that a revolver can. (I've also never had a revolver "stove pipe" on me.) Pistols are all about firepower/capacity but I've always figured if you can't do it in the first 5 shots, it ain't getting done! That being said, I've got a tricked out 16 round capacity .45 ACP residing under my bed just 'cause. It was a project from gunsmithing school and I could...
