Greg I hear you, and thank you for the video. We are protected and she has consented to the handgun. If she only knew what else I have around the house.
Then I would move. Trying to apply rational thought to irrational people (tell you wife this, Brett) is futile. It's a(nother) $500 insurance policy you hope you never (like every other) need. But, I sleep better knowing I have it.
I have dealt with irrational teenagers and criminals for over a decade. When they get something stuck in their head, they are like talking to a brick wall. My wife loves people and truly believes in goodness in all. I on the other hand was not raised looking through rose colored glasses. I have had people break into my home in the middle of the night, had guns pointed at me, and have been robbed at knife point. There truly is a battle going on between the slugs of society and the good people. I know what side I am on each day.
I believe this is about to change. If I'm correct it goes to the supreme court in June for us citizens in IL. Even the P.O.S. Mayor Daley is already getting pro-active on what restrictions and what courses you will have to have in order to carry in Cook Co. Seems he even knows he is going to lose this time.
Greg, I just last week purchashed a 9mm and the paperwork sits right here in front of me to fill out and start it's process. $65 with the applacation, cost of running an add in the newspaper and finger printing and picture and background check are more out of pocket cost. Then the 2 week course 3 nights a week for 2 maybe 3 hrs each. Lots involved in obtaining but it is money well spent. Won't hear me complain.
Got mine last year. Slowly adding weapons. I don't carry as much as most, but when I go to certain parts of town I do and I always have one in the vehicle and house.
9mm's are horrible you might as well throw the gun at them.... Get a .45 feel secure in knowing one shot is all you need.. never doubt the 1911 frame its war proven and makes a perfect carry gun you can never practice 2 much.. even tho our president thinks he needs to sky rocket the price of ammuntion practice, practice, practice..!!
Shadowman, you willing to let me test your 9mm theory on you?:D A well placed shot out of most any gun is better than not having one.
Exactly. I literally laugh out loud when I hear someone say ANY caliber isn't worth carrying... I've got several carry pieces in .380, and the dufus behind the counter made a very similar comment about my caliber of choice, and I came back with almost the same reply. Funny... he didn't take me up on my offer either. We've had the discussion many times on here before, but what most fail to realize is the age-old adage that is a literal mantra in the carry crowd: A .380 on your person beats a .40-anything in the truck any day of the week. IF you truly carry your .40-whatever as much as I carry my .380s, God bless you... seriously. But I'd be willing to bet that MOST people have delusions of grandeur and end up not carrying their big gun that much at all.
Wisconsin and Illinois are the ONLY two states still banning concealed carry. I am embarrassed and ashamed of my state (WI).
Greg, my 9mm will be the home defense and a smaller (weapon of choice to be decided yet) caliber probably a 380 will become my carry weapon. Right now I just want to get the permit while the gettins good.
Unfortunately, MD does not allow concealed carry. A .22 center mass 3+ times will stop 95% of would be attackers and I would bet my life on that .
Really? It has been reported time and time again that Wisconsin and IL are the only two states. I guess I don't understand how this could be the case but I believe you Bruce. Does that mean there are only three states?
Maryland does allow concealed carry. It is a 'may-issue' state rather than a 'shall-issue' state. 'May-issue' means you apply and if the police think you have reason enough to carry, then you get a permit. 'Shall-issue' means you apply and if you pass the legal requirements you get the permit... the state can't pick and choose who gets one based on perceived need or other subjective things. May-issue sucks compared to Shall-issue.... but it's still a whole hell of a lot better than IL and WI No-issue laws. You could show that you have a bounty on your head, 10 stalkers and a band of angry ninjas after you in IL and you still couldn't get a CCW. http://www.gunmap.org/
Ah-HA!!!! Good info Christine. I didn't think all the reports could be wrong but I wasn't going to say Bruce is a lier either.
Sometimes whether or not a state allows concealed carry requires some qualification. For example, Michigan now has a "shall issue" statute which requires county gun boards to issue a CPL if one passses the criminal background test, the CPL class, and has references. Before the statute took effect, Michigan officially allowed concealed carry, but there were only two counties where the county gun board would actually issue you a permit. They would deny it claiming that you had not shown sufficient need. (You could get one if you had the appropriate political connections or were a famous rock star.) No law against concealed sheep though
