I have read everyone talk about how good it is to know these people in your area or hunting area. I live on a combined family property of almost 200 acres. 120 or so of which is leased by a guy who breads and raises some of the most beautiful angus beef cattle I have ever seen. Anyways, tonight at about 9:30 I was headed out to get a can of Grizzly and as I was pulling out of my spot in the driveway he drove past me from the pasture. Our drive connects to the pasture road. We got to the end of the 6/10 of a mile gravel drive and he jumps out of his truck and comes running back to my car. I thought what the heck? He had one of the most exciting looks on his face I have seen in a while. He said "Doug, Ive been wanting to tell you about this for a few days now but, you werent at home for me too" He said "Few days ago I was riding the fence line checking the fence and I felt the fence vibrate. When I looked up ahead to see what it was, I almost crapped myself." He then went on to descide this beuatifull buck in velvet. It was one I have seen last season. He said "Man that thing has a spread of at least 20" or more and I counted 8 points." He then told me that wasn't the first one he has seen and he knows of another big six that is close to the same size.

Up until a couple months ago he and I hadn't talked much at all. He knows who I am and I know who he is and we had said hey in passing. It all changed one day when I saw a huge cow hoof print when I was out scouting. These cows are worth a whol elot of money an dI knew he would want to know he had one out. I tracked the cow down and found her. I then called him and left him a message. Later that day he stopped while I was fixxing a spot in our barbed wire fence and asked me where i had saw her last and said thank you. He found her just where I told him and we have had a few conversations since.

I now know the importance of such relation ships. You see I know of another buck that I am chasing and in 15 min of talking to him I now know of three. Two I feel sure are shooters. I don't have cameras yet but, will be getting two possibly three next week. I hope to catch them on the card and at least one in the stand this year.

Does anyone else have a story like this or a good relationship with farmers, cow breaders or just locals that you talk to every now and then?
