After 11 in a row... I gulp... just missed a buck. I don't know why... 20 degrees... bundled up... I must have changed something in my sight alignment... I don't know. I was completely calm.. had a good pin set.. did not poke the trigger... followed through fine... No excuses... I just missed at 18 yards.
Not your fault. It was obviously a brief gravitational interference from Hale-Bopp. You didn't miss. You were interfered with.
Will shoot some before I go tomorrow. I did adjust my wrist strap slightly but I don't think that was it. Probably just not used to shooting in freezing temps. I had 45 minutes before dark after the miss but with an unexplainable miss... I got down before I made a bad hit. I should have practiced before going with my 5 or 6 layers.
Respect. Now you make me feel guilty and I must make a confession. I missed this year too. But, I am pretty sure that is was caused by Hale-Bopp. Not sure how long my streak had been, but like yours, it was pretty good. Lucky for me, I got a chance to redeem myself and made one of the better shots of my life. You will too.
Don't beat yourself up,it happens. I went 6 for 6 this year and was going for number 7 and I shot 2 feet under her. 2 freaking feet! Just missed bad. I'm going with a suicidal twig jumped in front of my arrow to save that deer.
I'm heading down to Montgomery Thursday-Sunday to try and drop the string on a buck.... Hopefully I don't suffer the same fate! haha it happens man, I'm sure you will put one through the ribs next time you run into him.
Okay turns out today... I took a check shot at 30 yards. I am off 12 inches low and 6 inches right all of a sudden. I have no idea what happened unless I whacked my rest on something. I am going to retune Thursday... weird stuff right there.
at least you know it wasn't you, and you didn't wound him! happened to me this season as well...gut shot mine. Luckily the angle was good enough that it caught plenty of liver. I was able to recover him but it was a nerve wracking track job, and a nasty gut pile at the end. Went back to camp and took a test shot - 4" right. I'll never head into the woods w/o a test shot after traveling again. I'd say good luck but doubt you'll need it once you get the equipment kinks worked out.
I can't find anything obvious... I shoot an Apache and have had problems with screws coming loose in the past but I can't see that this time. Maybe the mount screw loosened? I have been shooting great up until now. Funny how quickly one's confidence can go the way of the Dodo.
