I shot my second bow deer about an hour into my season yesterday on public land. He came in with another buck at 8:30, he was the bigger of the 2. They walked right down the path I walked in on and never caught any scent. When I was able to draw, this buck was shy of 10 yards and quartering away. I had to put a hard angle shot since he was so close. The arrow went in about 2 inches below his spine, through the liver and both lungs and into the dirt. He made it 15 feet and fell over dead. This is my second deer with my bow. 6 Point, 85 lbs. Now it's time to whack some does and wait for a mature buck. Hope everyone is having a good season.
Nice job man! You mentioned he never got wind of you or your trail. Why do you think that is? Im only asking because im a noob and you obviously know. THanks
I use cover scent pretty heavily, including on the bottom of my boots. Also, I hunt public ground, so they are familiar to human scent, it just depends on whether they relate that scent to danger or not. The 2 bucks were young, so they were not "educated" by any means. I hope to be in the stand tomorrow evening, maybe a doe will give me a good shot.
