Good start to the season, but still no deer on the ground.

Opening morning I went out to the new land we have permission to hunt and saw 5 turkeys. Unfortunately the cows were in the field I was hunting and decided to come join me in the woods, so I think this may have kept the deer out of there.

Yesterday morning I went out and didnt see anything so I got down early and scouted a spot and found a fresh rub and a couple trails. I decided to hang a stand overlooking a small corner of a field with the trails behind me.

Last night we went to another place we got permission to hunt that is 450 acres and almost all of it is soy beans. We hunted one of his fields and walking in jumped 2 does and about 10 turkeys. After finally setting up I got a text from my buddy that he missed a doe at 30 yards. The funny part is he dropped his quiver so he only had one arrow, and wouldnt you know it after the shot she just stood there...lol Well a little while went by and I looked back behind me to see 2 does at about 60 yards. They started walking my buddy's way but most have caught his scent(they were downwind) and started back my way but went into the woods at 35 yards never offering me a shot. Finally just as I was about to get down I looked over and there was about 10 does and fawns walking the middle of the field. They were coming my way, but I ran out of light and they never made it to me. It was a good time tho and can't wait to get out there Thursday night.

I'min the same boat, saw deer both times out just didn't get one on the ground. That is why I'll be out there again tomorrow and a bunch this weekend.

 

I went out tonight and tried a new spot, and ended up walking around for an hour trying to find a tree. By the time I did I was drenched in sweat. That enigma sure is hot, but I found a solid spot that had trails going everywhere in a creek bed between 2 bean fields. I had 2 does within 30 yards but did not offer a shot because of all the foliage. I like the spot and even found a tree for next time. If only i was in it tonight, id be dragging one out right now. Still no signs of any bucks tho. Come on november!
