So I moved my stand into a thick brushy part of the woods, only one climbable tree that allows a shot on an oil well road because I seen a fresh scape had been made. First morning in the stand, two does come early, and bucks to follow. Two smaller racked bucks were chasing. Finally had a third buck in the group, not nearly the size I've seen out there, but he came within 5-10 yards of me. He was high tailing it, stoped for a split second, and I shot, think I hit the shoulder blade bone, barried the arrow to the vanes, and seen him run with arrow in him. After waiting about an hour, got down, couldnt find arrow or blood. While waiting in the stand , I seen him circle in front of me on an oil well road about 100 yards down, he was going slow and dragging front leg.He crossed the creek, fell, and limped up the hill, and the started moving steadly across the hillside. I only found a few drops of blood, but followed his drag marks, unable to find him because no blood trail, what would you guys do? I thought with the shot I would catch a lung, he was coming at me, but was quartered.
If it went to the veins you got good penetration. You won't find blood until he snaps the arrow usually. Did you find parts of the arrow? I would back out and give him 4-6 hours. Don't give up, I have seen shoulder shots kill plenty of deer. Goodluck
concentric circles with a compass and map. look in every little dip, swale, and blowdown u can find. Also consider he may have gone towards water if theres any around.
