They avoid losing to another SEC team in 2012 1 year bowl ban 4 more schollies Urban was telling recruits it was not going to be that bad
Thats impossible. Gene Smith said there was no way there would be a bowl ban. I think Smith has proved his credibility. Who is your source?
Yahoo ESPN FOX tOSU It would have been a lot worst, but sombody did not play nice with the NCAA. Cough, Cough Pryor Somebody refused to work with the NCAA my guess is Pryor
You guys must be relieved... You at least have a shot a winning the conference next year. MSU and WIS lose their QB's, PSU imploded and you don't have to face tOSU in the conference championship game.
I won't be playing, but I still don't like Michigan to win by default. I'm sure Sparty and the Badgers are rejoicing though.
Urban is back stroking like an olympic swimmer today, after his comments to recruits about what he thought the penalties would be. Dude was on a roll too.
Not being a homer here, but I really do not see this affecting recruiting much at all. It is one year, one half to three quarter of the kids will probably be in a redshirt season anyhow.
I could see it affecting the top recruits. The guys that would play as freshman. They will essential be playing for nothing that first year. Well, I say nothing...but you still get tattoos and cars. It can't be that bad. So maybe it won't have an affect.
Reports are showing none of tOSU's commitments are waivering after the announcement. If it affects anyone it will be uncommited prospects.
I wouldn't expect much at this point. Kids can be persuaded easily. You better believe coaches from other schools will be calling these kids again. Just sayin'.
I know the title of the thread is meant to be sarcastic but the analysts on ESPN all thought this actually WAS good news for OSU...since the penalties were not worse. For instance…this is nothing compared to the sanctions that were imposed on USC.
Not at all. I want to play the best. Won't be much of a big 10 championship game if OSU wins their division and cannot play in the game. Cannot see it hurting recruiting a ton. I would say over 90% of the Freshman will red shirt. The thought of playing for a National Championship in three years may aliviate the fear of those that are on the edge or unsure. It will be hard to recruit against Meyer.
I think if tOSU had given SMITH the axe too, since he supported Jimmy T, and said "Jim Tressel is our coach," in the face of the calculated deceit that Tressel had done, they may have been seen in a better light. The fact that they supported him, until the end, rather than just cutting ties, really probably cost them an opportunity to have a better season this year AND next.
