I checked on the farm I hunt yesterday. The corn harvest looks like it is going to be a good one around here. Anyway the farmer so kindly left me a "runway" between the corn and the timber. It appears to have a fair amount of tracks going through it. I have a stand hung about 1/2 way down just inside the timber. Has anyone hunted this type of set-up? What have been your results?

it looks like a good setup, is their more timber that surrounds that field or just that edge of timber from the picture, if there is more timber that wraps around it, it seems like it would be a good setup for a decoy once corn gets harvested?

No that is the only woodlot connected to the field. I have used decoy's in this stand with great results in years past. This year is the first year I have had corn planted here. Curious to see how it turns out.

Here is what it has looked like in the past from this stand. The last picture is basically standing at the same spot as the original picture showing the corn.

it will be interesting with there being corn in that field this year, I think it should give you more activity considering the deer will want to switch to corn for pre rut and rut for energy food. I would keep sticking to your game plan and using the decoy, do you use yours as a doe and a buck? I like using mine as a buck most of the time and I put a bigger antler on only one side and took other side off it. sometimes you might get more deer coming to it because it doesn't look as threating only having one side, but with that having a bigger half racked deer might draw that bruiser in on it!

I hunt a set up similar to yours pictured but the only difference is the woods seperates the corn from a water source. So I am able to catch them traveling. But it usually works out well, especially if you have some acorn producing oaks in that set of timber.

I have dabbled with using it as a buck and a doe with similar results. The difference is I make sure I plan on the deer approaching it from the front when it is a buck and from behind if I have it as a doe. So far, (and it has only been one year) I get more of the interest factor rather than aggressive behavior. I had a nice buck come to my doe decoy last year right under my stand. I did draw on the buck but it was too dark to shoot. Oh well.

yes that is always important to how you set up your decoy, especially how and where you think the deer will come from. Any signs of that deer that you drew on last year?

No idea.... My crappy Moutrie camera died so I have not had one out there. Everything I will see out there from my stand will be a surprise.

I say we go start a bonfire with our moultrie cams and drink some beers, mine has been a piece of S*#! this year too. It hasn't been taking night pictures and the battery life sucks! I have pics of deer and 2 possible shooters during the day, but there are bigger in the area and they have been hitting my mineral sightbut probably at night.
