     :(

Well, it looks as if my Elk plans have been a little changed to say the least. While on vacation last Friday, I dove into the pool into the deep end, where I thought the water was about 6 1/2ft deep but unbeknownst to me, they'd fixed the rope and returned it to it's previous place and the water I dove into, even though it was a gentle dive was only a little over 4 feet deep. The end result is a C6 fracture and some loss of function to my L arm and hand, a few sticthes in my head and a C-Collar for at least 4 weeks and maybe longer. Truth be known, I'm actually very LUCKY, as I had my hands near my chest and was able to blunt some of the force, otherwise, I'd probably had a much more severe fracture and could be dealing with a chair or worse. I'm very disgusted at myself over the whole thing, but also very thankful that God is kind and protected me from worse injury than what I have.

I couldn't be more disappointed than if I'd gone and whiffed on a whopper. Now I have to work on getting good function back in my left arm and thinking about next year.

I hope that all of you guys that are going have a safe and enjoyable trip, and the experience is all you hope for.

Best of luck to all of you guys.....

    Doug,

My heart stopped as I started to read this ... I lost an Uncle many years ago to a diving accident ... Praise God you were able to type this! I immediately went to praying for you, friend. Please keep us posted and thank God you are still with us.

Thanks for the positive thoughts guys, I need them right now. Hopefully over the next couple weeks, I'll get good function back out of my arm and hand, and then I can start planning for the future from there. As is it, I am still able walk and take care of what I need to. Not allowed to drive until the C-Collar is off which is already driving me crazy, but I'm doing all right thus far. Patience and prayers will be my guide.

As for now, I'm looking forward to Aug 12, as the date that I'll get re-scanned and see if I'm free of this damned collar. I can take it off for short periods, but only while sitting or laying down and in this heat, it is HOT!!!

Doug, goodness gracious man I am so sorry to hear of this mishap. Accidents happen to us all for whatever reason. Maybe someone was protecting you from something else when this event came to be.......Please rest up, take the pain meds, and be safe. I really hope you continue to progress so that your loss of limb strength returns to asap.

    Brett

Hey guys, thanks again for the positive thoughts and well wishes. It's very frustrating to have to hurry up and wait for things to get better. And the thought of not being out there in those mountains when that is about all I've really thought about for the last couple months is very disappointing!!! However, life will go on, and I will slowly but surely heal, and there is always next year.... But having to wait another year may drive me crazy. When those of you who ARE going get back please post up a bunch of pic's to feed dreams a bit.
