So I am still trying to hunt down some Gold Tip CAA's for this hunting season.

I don't want to go through my shop because instead of trying to order some for me, he will just try to tell me I don't need them and I should go for the Expedition Hunters instead. :bash:

So I called Lancaster once again, hoping they were starting to carry the CAA's. Well, when I called the guy in sales told me Gold Tip moved the CAA line over to their Vapor shafts?

Can anyone that knows more about Gold Tip confirm this? And if this is the case, does anyone know if the Vapor CAA's have the same tolerances (as far as straightness, spine, and weight).

I will order the Vapors if they are exactly what the Gold Tip CAA was, but I will move one to a different shaft if this isn't the case.

And if the Gold Tip CAA is still available, is there ANY place I can order these suckers on-line?

Bols, according to the Vapor website, the CAA has a straightness of .0025 and +/- 2 grains. The 400 is 8.7 GPI.

I am still curious if Gold Tip moved the CAA line-up to Vapor though.

Just talked to Taylor at GT. I knew the line was previously under Vapor, and moved to GT. I'm assuming you know, but GT owns Vapor.

Taylor informed me that the CAA is now being sold under both lines. There are no plans to discontinue the GT line of CAA's. Both the Vapor and GT lines are the same exact arrows, w/ same exact specs, just different labels.

www.maketheshot.com should have them in stock right now.

SOAB! Just checked the link and no CAA's there. I'd order from yeoldeoracheryshoppe.com

I knew Matt would pull through in the clutch. :tu: Thanks!

Well then, that being said, I will order from Ye Olde Archery Shop....

And if in a pinch, I know the Vapor lineup would work....

Also, are the CAA inserts threaded to add GT add-on weights?

Yes, I have some in some of mine. You can also use the corresponding A/C/C accessories too. They are an exact match. I have 2x dozen CAA 400's fletched up for FITA and Field archery, and set them up before GT finished the machining on the new components for CAA's last year. The ACC 3-49 glue in target points fit perfectly.

Are 400's gonna work with 58-60 lb. Trykon, shooting 27" arrows with 100 grain tip and 25 grain add-on?

Back end of shaft will have wrap, 2" Razyr feathers, and the pin nock components.

Respectfully ......I see two different specs. Gold tip has them listed as .001, and Vapor has them listed as .0025. ??

The GT specs are incorrect. They are .002, the same as ACC's.

With that said, I end up culling less CAA's out of a dozen than any other shaft I'ved used (excluding aluminums and ACC's). That includes gold label Pro GT's. As a matter of fact, out of 4x dozen CAA's, I've never culled a single arrow for straightness (spin test), weight, or spine. Other than high dollar Navigators, A/C/E's, A/C/C's and pure aluminum.......I've never seen more consistent tolerances in an arrow.

I average culling 1 arrow out of a dozen Pro series pure carbon GT's.

Don't know your DL, but assuming it's 28" your gonna be stiff with a 400. A 450 would be perfect. You should end up with a 405-410 grain arrow (depending on wrap used), and 260ish FPS.

I'd use the 400's then. Your arrow would end up going in the low 270's.

Bols, why on earth would you want to shoot gold tips when Easton is still in business? :D
