I would get a rope ascender/mech prusik. Makes life easier.

Looks like the saddle and platform already come with a set of 3 ropes? If so you don't need that tether.

I would also look for a set of dump pouches that attach to the molle webbing on the sides of the saddle. You'll need somewhere to put your ropes and other crap that you'll be carrying. Mine holds ropes, hand saw, HYS strap / bow holder, s biners, hip pinch eliminator, some gear hooks, and whatever else I need access to while climbing up and down these trees.

I’m getting this same set up next year I think. Just got one of their new stands and the X2’s for semi mobile.

I love the sticks… they grab the tree very very well.

Looks like you are good to go. Do yourself a favor and spend a couple hours sitting in it at home, just to get a feel for it and how to adjust to fit you comfortably. You don't have to climb a tree if you don't have one. Just set up the platform on a telephone pole a couple of feet of the ground, get comfortable and the practice different shooting positions. An afternoon spent this way is much better than figuring out in a tree during a hunt.

X2s work well. I have 4 of them and put 12 inch Amsteel aiders to each. I can get to 20 feet and they are light.

Avoid Hawk products, cheaply made in China and known to break. It is worth spending the extra money to get a better brand.

I have the Tethrd set up and love it. Been using it 5 or 6 years now. It’s their entry level one. Love the ability to hunt any tree that you’re able to get up. I barely use any of my other stands anymore unless it’s all day sits during rifle season.

Me as well. Although for time sake of setup and teardown, there are a lot of areas i hunt where i know a climber will work but i still use a saddle. I may start ising my climber in certain situations.

Going for my first saddle sit tomorrow. Still haven’t figured how I am going to get my xop sticks attached to my saddle. Any recommendations?

Dont need to attach your sticks to your saddle. Set first stick from ground. Then hang all your sticks from the top step. Climb on that stick, then set the next stick. Then move your remaining sticks hang them from the the top step of that stick. Just keep repeating til you run out of sticks.

This works great, if you have double steps, single steps, not so much.

The first few times are always a mess! Eventually you'll figure out a system that works for you.

If you haven't done a lot of run-and-gun hunting with a hang-on stand in the past it can be a big learning curve. If you've done it in the past, there isn't much difference from hanging and hunting out of portable treestand.

I had a lone wolf alpha and sticks that I used for years. Got really efficient with that set up. Hopefully will with this also. I am a bit older than when I used that set up as well.

Did you spend an afternoon practicing in your back yard like I suggested?

I played with it a few days in my yard. Mostly hanging from the saddle and moving around getting shots. I am going to do it the way I did my hang on, put up all the sticks, then the platform, then the tether, but all separately instead of trying to do one trip up the tree.
