Man, I am bout to try my hand at quitting smoking probably going to ween off of it on the copenhagen and ease down that way any pointers?
Oh, NO. DON'T DO IT !!! Oh brother. I would strongly advice for you not to do it that way. Weaning off of smoking by going on the copenhagen, I think is about the worst thing you can do. Cope much more addicitive than cigs. I did what your thinking about doing. That's how I did it. Yeah, quit smoking as a result but got addicted to the Cope and 14 years later got oral cancer in my mouth. It's great that you want to quit smoking, but weening off of it and switching to chew is NOT THE WAY to do it. See your doctor about the patch, lozenges, medication, etc. for safe help to kick the habit. Here is a picture I took about 2 weeks ago, after they removed part of my tonuge because I had cancer. It is healing well. I'm still on HydroCodon a powerful pain medication as I still have alot of pain while healing. DO NOT USE CHEW TO WEEN OFF OF CIGS.
Yep...make up your mind that you REALLY want to do it for yourself and stick to it. It is going to be HARD, you will want to quit quitting ,many times. The easy thing is to smoke again, it is as simple as lighting up and smoking. In a few days it will get a little easier, in a few weeks it will get alot easier and before you know it, you will be me telling someone else you have been off the nicotine for 2 years and 3 months (dip for me). Good luck bro and there are many of us who can lend a hand.
BBD, I quit a little over 8 years ago, tried to quit many times, hypnosis, Zyban, gum... the whoe works. Like the old joke goes, it's easy, I've done it a hundred times !! Half the battle is a mental state of saying I'm tired of waking up with a hacking cough, tired of spending up to $7 a pack for cigs, tired of people telling me I stink because of the smoke smell, just plain tired of being addicted to a bad habit. If you really aren't in the right mental state, your chances of success are diminished. You really, really want to quit !!! I hit that point over 8 years ago, I went on the patch for 3 weeks and I have never looked back !!! Good Luck, I hope you succeed !!!
Good Luck BBD!! I agree, stay away from the Cope! I started back when I was in highschool and finally quit last year, age 20. I was already starting to see ill effects in my mouth. It was an image thing, mostly. I never smoked that much so I can't speak from that side, but when I chewed the best thing that helped me quit was sunflower seeds. Just having something in your mouth. It feels good to be healthy again. Funny how I quit drinking once I turned 21 It feels good to wake up every morning to a lip that isn't chewed up and raw and remembering what happened last night.
There is no try,you either do it or you do not. When I quit 14 years ago,I said I quit.Never was it an I'm trying thing.Make up your mind and do it. Smoking is more of a habit than an addiction. You'll see the urge hit you at certain times.Like when you get up,have a beer and so forth. Those are the crucial times.Find something else like sun flower seeds or life savers. I reached for the pack in my pocket up to 5 years later. After a while, once I reached in there and they weren't there.I went on and didn't give it another thought. Good luck
Iowa, you should keep a pocket full of those pics on you at all times and when you see a kid acting like he is cool with that stuff in his mouth, hand them a pic and explain what happens.Probably won't work for 95% of them but might for 5%.
Like the others said, Just quit ! I smoked Cigars for 30 years. Tried pills, Gum, patches, and the dumbest thing I did was trying to use other tobacco products. Hell at one time I was smoking Cigars, chewing Levi, and a good frend of mine I was in the service with Dad owend a tobacco store so they were always sending me special blends of tobacco, so I was smoking the pipe also. I would be drinking a cup of coffee and smoking a cigar while I walked to the Gym . For me it was way more than a habit and I had to get right in my mind to quit. Good Luck.
Get pissed off, and use the energy to help you quit. It's expensive (more money for hunting or other hobbies) It's stinky and messy (harder to de-scent yourself for hunting) It causes cancer! (no life=no hunting) I quit three years ago, by using these great tea-tree oil toothpicks. Whenever I wanted a cig, I chomped on a tea tree toothpick instead. (my dad told me that I wouldn't die of cancer, but dutch elm disease instead!) I do have an occasional cigar, but don't even consider it for now... Make it through the first day, then week, then month, etc.. If you resort to smoking a cig, don't give up on the idea of quitting, but just admit that you had ONE cig, and start over after. You can do it, and down the road, you will be grateful. Good luck!
