Decided to put my deer stand to good use, I live on a point of a peninsula and have a nice tree at a narrow entrance to the bay. Sit in the evenings shoot at the teal and woodies.

I don't believe that would be legal in MN. Carrying both bow and shotgun is against the rules. Good thought, though.

I can not hold a pin steady enough to shoot a bow.

Sota you know as soon as you get into a tree, your furry little buddies will attack you.

So I have been "duck hunting" the last week sitting out in the evenings as the sun sets, and as the sun rises. Been watching the woodies and teal. The next lake over is more of a big cat tail swamp judging from the shots the place is a battle field, I watch the ducks come over the trees on the other side of the lake and they fly right for the bay. I enjoy watching the ducks come in and listen to them chatting as they eat unconcerned and safe. Don't need to shoot them to enjoy them.

Had another hunter on my honey hole tonight, bald eagle buzzing over the bay 3 times, really wanted to see an eagle hit a duck.

I am officially an old man that has resigned from killing most creatures. I have enjoyed watching the ducks far more that shooting and cleaning them. Saw a big drake woodie just off the shore he was mature. I have the stamps license and shot but nope more enjoyment watching him swim in and feed and be comfortable. I just do not feel the need to kill something just to make a decoration out of the body.

Missed this morning because I left for the airport at 5:30 but evidently the bay was packed full of ducks this morning picture looked like 40 or more. I feel good about not shooting them.

    That's kinda disheartening AND refreshing.

I sure do hope you dont lose the fire enuff to take out the grandson when/if he wants to.

Up until maybe 5 years ago, I would (on a whim) decide I was gonna go coyote hunting for a few days. Would leave MN at midnight and drive till daybreak to Montana. Sleep in my truck, walk umpteen miles.
    It was SO MUCH FUN...
but that fire has burned out. No desire anymore. Can't explain it?

I am looking forward to when the boys are old enough to hunt, Grandpa will buy decoys calls and buy them their own shotguns.

Dang watched 10 woodies dive into the bay tonight, surprised they are still around but all the ice has has melted. So cool to watch them drive bomb in no circling. Would love to find a dad with a kid that wants to shoot some ducks.

Yeah and it is not an all day shoot, few in the morning but couple dozen in the evenings possibly. Guess I will do habitat work if I can. I have a few little areas of wild rice, I think I can rake and seed yet this fall. No time for a stinking permit.

I think I am going to shovel up acorns and dump them in the water by the oak that over hangs the lake, seems the woodies love the water softened acorns. Supposed to be warm next week so I hope to see some more wood ducks. Kinda weird central Minnesota lake no bread eating dock mallards here.
