I shot a really nice buck this evening, but backed out. The arrow hit a branch and deflected. It hit him back. It looked like hit him in back leg, but it's all a blur right now. The arrow did a complete pass through and there is a pretty good blood trail. Might have actually hit in liver, like I said it's all a blur right now. I followed the blood about 50 yards but it started to get pretty dark so I backed out. I hope he is laying dead tomorrow morning. He has a split G2 and is just a really nice buck. I was watching a small 8pt and a doe out infront of me. I look over to my right and here is coming. I tried bleating at him to stop in first opening but was really windy and he didn't hear me. I stopped him in next one and let arrow fly.

Don't know if this is near you but here's some information if necessary.

    My Services:

I am usually near Camp Point during the hunting season, especially during the rut. I prefer to track in Adams, Pike, Brown and Hancock counties, but will ocassionally travel further if I have the time. I will also travel to Missouri, if within 60 miles of Quincy. "Chloe" is also certified to track on State Property. There is no fee for our service, but I would request reimbursement for gas. Cell phone is the best way to reach me, 217-242-1089.

Great info Rob - Quincy is only about 30 minutes from our lease. I'm putting this info in my wallet just in case I need it!

Good luck finding your buck tomorrow, you did the right thing backing out!

I wish you were closer Rob. I hunt in central Missouri, that would be a pretty good drive. The more I think about it, the more I think I will find a deer buck in the morning. There was a good blood trail, but just got dark and since I hit him back I backed out. My sister is gonna help me in the morning.

    Will keep you all informed.

I wish I lived closer too but that's not my information. That is a tracker from the United Blood Trackers that offers their services.

Justin, there are 9 others on the UBT's website in IL. Including my dog's litter mate.

I can't stress their services enough.

Ya, I see you live in PA now. My mistake. That would be a great service to use.

Just got back from looking all day. No deer. Was a very spotty blood trail. There were times where it was good blood, but then there were lots of times where there was no blood or just spots. Most of the time I was on my hands and knees looking for blood. We followed it for at least 400 yards, the last blood I found was just 2 very small drops. I guess I missed that artery that runs through the back leg. I do have a question for you guys though. It was extremely windy yesterday, getting over 30mph at times. Do you think on a 30yard shot, the wind coulda blown my arrow? I went to where I shot him and it was a clear shot to him from stand, no branches in way. The wind was blowing in right direction for it to have blown the arrow back.

I wouldn't think the wind would cause enough to drift the arrow back that far. Assuming you're aiming straight up from the front leg I could see the wind shifting the arrow a couple inches maybe, but not a couple feet.
