Tom, not to change the subject but how did the killzone work on the doe? I am dying to see more field results from them.
Did all you could, this happens. Last year a guy I know shot a buck with a 270 and we were positive he was dead. Knocked the deer off its feet, and found buckets of blood. A few months later he showed up on cam with a crazy scar and bald spot. Named him skid mark.
I think it worked well on the doe. I blew right through her and as she took off you could see blood gushing out of her.
Tom - sorry to hear about the buck bud. That stinks. I know footage can be decieving, but it looks like you're just a hair to the left of where that arrow needed to be for a quick recovery. Although from that angle, I'm taking that shot all day long and not thinking twice about it. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. That's just the nature of this game we all play. Way to bounce back on that doe and get the job done. You're looking pretty B-A with that facepaint on.
Congrats Tom! As to the comments on shot angle/placement affecting the blood trail, even a good shot will sometimes not give much of a blood trail. My deer last year was right through the heart & lungs, but if it hadn't been for the arrow I would have sworn I missed completely. It took almost an hour to find the first drop of blood, and then it was a very light trail (but at least it was a short one).
