Finally made it back home. Our hunting club cabin is only 25 minutes from Macks Prairie Wings and a few of my friends were there so I stayed there last night. I made a big change with these arrows. They are lighter than the arrows for my Heli-m. I say "big change". Actually I just went with a 50 grain insert instead of a 100 grain insert like I've been using. The total arrow weight is 470 grains with a 14% FOC. I'll see how it goes with these for a while. If I decide I want the heavier set up, I have a bunch of 50 grain Gold Tip weights to add and make them the same as the old ones. This arrow setup should do the job.
Yesterday at about 4:00 pm I decided to shoot just a few more arrows before I put the new toy away. It had been shooting great with no issues all day, but when I shot the first arrow this time it made a terrible slapping sound and the arrow went wobbling down the range. I nocked another arrow and shot with the same result. I looked at the QAD rest and there was hard contact, so I nocked one more arrow, drew and had a buddy check the alignment marks. He said they looked "good to him". I let down, flipped the rest a few times, then drew and shot. This time the contact was so hard it stripped two of the blazers off. Granted, the guy at the shop had just glued them on about 7 hours before that, but still..... I jumped back in the truck and made a flying trip back to Mack's. The cord had slipped and the rest wasn't dropping. He readjusted it and it was shooting fine. I'll probably need to replace the felt on the flipper because it got chewed up pretty good, but I bought a 3 pack of those. I've been shooting 60 pounds since early last year. I had him leave this one at 65 pounds for the time being. I'll try it for a while, but I'm thinking I'll end up needing to drop it to 60. The fact that I hadn't shot in quite a while coupled with shooting 5 pounds heavier than I'm used to made my arms feel like noodles by the end of the day. Also, this thing weighs quite a bit more than my Heli-m, so there's that. I can easily adjust to the weight, but I'll have to shoot for a while to see if I want to drop the draw weight. On a brighter note, at 20 yards the Fast Eddie sight is cranked all the way down. I still have a lot of elevation left when I get to the 100 yard mark, so I'm guessing I'll be doing some plinking out past 100 yards here soon.
Everyone talks about how vibration free the Triax is. Well it is, and I was very impressed with how it just sits there at the shot and how quiet it was, but I just realized that I should charge the Tactacam and record a few shots. We've all seen Tactacam footage of bow shots and how the vibration looks on video. The video footage should either provide video evidence of the reduced shot vibration or prove that some of us are just biased. I'll work on this later.
I was afraid it was going to happen, and sure enough, it did. I have to agree with you: It is a sweet bow. I'm just going to have to get used to the additional weight. I'm spoiled after shooting a Heli-m for so long.
I am shooting Gold tip Velocity pro 340's. Triax 28 Draw 65 lb, 85 percent let off. Total arrow weight 428, how are the 300's working out? Seems they would be a little stiff? V/r Dave S.
They shoot great. I had them cut to 29.5" and I have the 50 grain insert with 125 grain points. They may just a touch stiff but that's better than a little weak.
Yeah I know how that feels. I recently bought a Halon 32 as the Triax just wouldn’t accommodate my 31.5” draw and it’s kind of an anchor. But man does it shoot nice. I’m sure you’ll get used to it. While the Triax doesn’t go to my DL it’s what steered me toward the Halon. That draw cycle with those cams is awesome.
Those are my favorite wraps, I like your white blazers with them Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
The white blazers/nock/wrap combination make the arrow easy to see in flight so I always know if I made a good shot or not.
Mine came from arrowwraps.com a few years ago, they held up great, longer than the arrows lasted. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
