I have been hearing some gobbling in the morning this fall. Heard it again this morning. This is the first year I have heard gobbling in the fall. I have seen/heard it on hunting shows/videos but never actually in person. Has anyone else been hearing gobbling.
No but I called 3 gobblers to within 20 yards of my stand last night after I saw them on the next ridge. Was at full draw on one & decided not to mess the area up with any big flopping after I shot him... Ends up I should have drilled him.
Only Gobbling I have heard this fall was the last week in October. It was a shock gobble. two train cars hooking up caused a big bang and set them off. Greg, you should have shot :D
Yeah, I know Dan... was sitting in the tree tonight replaying that wishing I had it to do over :D I've got a wall full of turkey fans I've taken with the bow out of my stand... usually end up getting at least one a year, but this would have been my first gobbler.
My first fall gobbler played out more like a spring hunt than my first spring gobbler. I had been watching a gobbler work into a field with a few hens for a couple weeks straight. He would strut and gobble non-stop... first day of fall turkey I set-up on the edge of the field and at daylight he was gobbling on roost. Like clock-work, his hens started coming in but for some reason they turned and headed the other way... a few fighting purr's and here comes the lead hen busting into the field with the gobbler following in full strut. He now hangs on the wall and everytime I look at him I remember the coolest fall turkey hunt that I have ever had!
The stand I plan on sitting tomorrow morning is in the general area of where I have been hearing them. If I get offered a shot, I might have to take it.
guy 1/4 mile or so down from me on Quantico was saying he had an entire group of them just out range last week... I heard a bunch of them yesterday, sounded a ways off. (whats a group of turkeys even called? too lazy to google it)
