I am in my 3rd season as a bow hunter and have been thinking about the upcoming season... What are your goals for 2015 and the upcoming season?

Obviously everyone's ultimate goal is to kill a mature animal... But what are your goals beyond just harvesting an animal?

    My top goals for 2015:

-Work hard, play harder. This is a goal for my job... But I'm applying it to hunting as well. Work hard, hunt harder. "If you let work take over your life, it most definitely will. It’s up to you to create a life for yourself outside of your job."

-Maintain a journal of what I do/see throughout the year.

-Pattern the deer more than I have so far... Focus on finding travel routes instead of taking the easy route of solely focusing on food sources.

-Practice, practice, and more practice. I found that I slacked on this in 2014 and it hurt me bad twice... I missed 2 bucks 1 week apart, both at 18 yards, and both shots over their backs.

-Build on supplementing the local deer herd... I don't just want to put minerals out. I want to put those minerals out where the deer will utilize them most and take full advantage of what todays minerals have to offer.

-Get someone involved. Not really sure what I want this to mean yet... But I want to get others interested and involved in quality deer management.

My hunting goals for 2015 are rather simple. I want to kill a turkey with my bow and kill a buck over 140''. In order to accomplish #2 I will need to get access to a new piece of property most likely, and take the time to scout and learn the land before season starts.

Well, I would love to bring my 3 daughters into the woods with me! At least 1 of them, probably a long shot for any of them but what the heck!! This season the 3 of them expressed some intrerest in bowhunting so you never know!! Also a nice mature 130 or better would sit well with me! Lastly, just a fun, safe great season that I will never forget!! Be safe everyone and best of luck!

As far as hunting goes, number one goal is to expand my hunting options. I want to have 3 or 4 places that I can hunt that are close enough to be convenient. I don't want to be caught with my pants down like I was this year. There were lots of contributing factors, but my normally active hunting property turned into a ghost town due to the neighbor to my east running cows on the property next to me for the first time in about 5 years. In addition, during the early archery season they logged the timber to the north and north east and also to the south west. Basically the travel corridor. The bucks were pushed off their traditional bedding areas and I was left with a few doe here and there. I never saw more than a basket rack 8 on my place this year.

Aside from that I want to grow as a videographery, photographer and editor all while providing quality content and growing Wide Angle Whitetail.

Goals for 2015, where to start...

The most important one, better organization of hunt/scouting time so I create more time to spend and enjoy with my wife. Hunting is a way of life for me, it's not a hobby that comes and goes with the season. With that being said, it's easy to let it over take my thoughts even when I'm spending time with the wifey. Soo, number 1, priorities.

Being organized will help me be more efficient with time but also with the projects I want to accomplish in the field. Extending 1 food plot this season and adding another one is on the winter project (which comes with it, spring and summer projects of planting).

The food plot locations will help me accomplish the 3rd and final goal for 2015. Utilize the 150 acres I hunt better. I don't know how it is for most, but for me, I've noticed that I spend most of my time in 2 or 3 locations toward the rut and ending the year. It minimizes, I feel, my effectiveness of hunting (over pressuring an area) and chances of seeing different/new deer. I probably spent most of my hunts this year within 1/3 of the farm. Not good... With the new food plots in a secluded area, it will help me to spread my hunting area of certain winds to a great part of the farm.

Other than that...hope to spend some quality time with my wife in God's creation and HOPEFULLY watch her shoot her first deer(s)!

My goals again will start with helping my children become better hunters and put them in position to shoot more animals. I would really like to see my daughter get her first bear and my son to shoot a mature buck. I also am going to do what I can to help a couple of friends shoot bears this year as well. For myself nothing has changed in the last few years, I just want to put my self in position to go after a mature buck at least 4 1/2 years old.

my 2015 goals.....starting this winter getting back to work in my field i started clearing last winter. My wife got layed off from her job on halloween, so money is tight, I will have no access to equipment for clearing stumps and undergrowth. that will have to be done the old fashion way...by hand in order to plant food plots and take full advantage of my land.

teach and show my best friend Larry everything I know about hunting. we've been best friends for over 30 years since i was 6. he's finally expressed interest and wanting to get out in the woods with me! I'm starting him off slow bringing him shed hunting/scouting this winter. he will also be my camera man for this upcoming season!! I'm really excited to teach him and just to be able to hang out with him alot more like when we were kids!

to FINALLY seal the deal in Illinois....this will be my third season heading out to a DIY outfitter in McDonough county Illinois. long story short...first year i only brought my climber and could not find a straight tree to save my life on the farm land/woods. last year I botched a 23 yard shot on a high 130's buck. This year I will seal the deal!!!

to learn how to relax, and enjoy it again! This past year I put so much pressure on myself while hunting, trying to get more kills on film I lost all drive and ambition midway through the rut.

My goal is all in land work. I have a lot of hinge cutting that needs to be done, bedding areas that need improving, areas that just need to be "clear cut", and foodplots that need to be planted. I have had this property since 2008 so 7 seasons this year, and haven't done anything yet really. No more excuses, it needs to change!

For me setting goals only lead to frustration. I have to be reminded on occasion that I hunt because I enjoy it. Anything that leads me to not enjoy it, goes. So my"goal" is to enjoy every hunt, hunt as much as I can while balancing outthe rest of life. Shoot deer when the chance presents itself and don't stress over things.

    1. My daughter will be 13 yrs old this fall and she wants to bowhunt. My goal is to teach her how to hunt safely and to get at least a shot at a deer.

    2. Keep mentoring my friend whom I helped start hunting this year. Keep pushing him toward being a self sufficient hunter.

    3. Kill a 3.5+ year old buck on my public land spot.

Not changing a thing pamper the does and be in the stand the week that matters. I always shoot an arrow before I hunt, ready for the bucks that chase the does.

This was my first season bow hunting. I saw 22 deer and put in 115 hours in the stand this season, but I didn't get out until late September. As the season approached, I thought, I really want to start this year. So I went and bought my bow and began practicing like crazy in an attempt to be able to get out and maybe take a very close shot (15 yards or so).

Next season will be a different story. I have been shooting every day and plan to do so as much as possible. This summer, I am going to shoot every single day. My goal is to harvest my first whitetail next fall. I am also going to plant a food plot and see if I can attract a few more deer to my land, as it is a very small parcel of land.

I would LIKE to kill a bigger deer than I did this year..

I WANT to kill anything with my now 3 yr old son.

I NEED not to go crazy waiting to spend time in the stand and have a ton of fun next year!

BTW Im hunting the last 5 days of this season! I have never killed a deer in Jan and would like to get that done this year.
